The Goggle Box Thread

Its all subjective isn't it and everyone has their own opinions. Like most of you loved Adolescence, I thought it was ok but for me the one shot concept spoilt it making it too slow and boring. For instance in episode 4, the drive from home to the hardware store took about 20 minutes and we saw every minute as they discussed A-Ha, I was bored stupid. As I said, the acting was excellent and the premise of the story was good but I would have preferred it as a conventional shoot

All excellent of course - but surely you can appreciate that Stephen Graham is an incredibly talented guy?
I've never stated that he wasn't talented... Incredibly? We'll agree to disagree.

I like Stephen Graham (lives 5 mins away from where I used to work) but he's in pretty much every UK drama at the minute. Or it feels like it.

Watched the first 3 episodes of Portugal with Michael Portillo.

Love his travel shows and this journey around Portugal (a country I adore) is very good. Episode 1 featured Porto, somewhere I visited many years ago from Northern Spain where I was staying and would like to return. Episode 2 moved to Braga, I know we went there on our Euro tour, never been but looks a fabulous city and episode 3 was in The Algarve which I am far more familiar with. He went off the beaten track which meant he went to places I have been to like Silves, Loule and Olhao.

Next episode is Madeira then 2 more to come after that

He moved fairly recently but still in the NW Leicestershire area.

I’ve only finished episode 1 of Adolescence and the boxing one so no spoilers please.

I didn't enjoy Adolescence much. 1st couple of episodes were pretty good but the other 2 not so much for us. Much preferred A Thousand Blows
Now watched it, I didn't enjoy the 3rd episode, but thought the 4th, particularly from the phone call onwards was really powerful

Flicking through the channels and randomly Glasgow is currently on Channel 5

He mentioned he was on some expats in Spain programme a while back.

Presume you are talking about him and not getting excited about C5 showcasing a Scottish City

Just had a look, with his Glaswegian wife Karen at their bar in Fuengirola

I think what makes the whole thing impressive is reading up on how it was all done.

The 1 shot element is amazing but knowing they filmed 10+ of each episode and then seeing which take they used makes Episode 3 outstanding.
They used the 13th attempt for that one.. For that young lad to do 40+ mins with that level of changing emotions must have been mentally tough but to then repeat it over and over is just brilliant.

This is going to be one of those shows where I enjoy reading up on the making of it, the methods used etc as much as the actual drama.

Seeing the usual suspects trying to make it about race whilst missing the central point of the drama is cringeworthy too. Barton's brassneck really is something
