The Goggle Box Thread

Yeah, she had nothing to watch one night and decided to give it a go... I'd steered her away from it for so long but now she insists on watching it

I didn't enjoy Adolescence much. 1st couple of episodes were pretty good but the other 2 not so much for us. Much preferred A Thousand Blows

I've really enjoyed it, just about to start ep4. That young lad is a proper talent. And Stephen Graham seems to finally be getting the status and recognition he deserves. Genuine national treasure imo

Agree about the acting, excellent. Graham and the lad were on The One Show on Thursday evening and Robert De Niro was on too sat next to the lad and they were discussing how good his acting was

When has he not got recognition? Genuine question. I thought everyone loved him?

His best moment for me was in This Is England, that scene with Lol is one of the most brilliantly delivered I've ever seen.

Watched 3 of adolescence so far. It's excellent, the way it's filmed must have been a nightmare to choreograph (particularly at the school) but it really adds to it.

Niche I know but I really enjoyed this, showed the care and dedication from all the great people I've worked with over the last 20 years.

Recognition's maybe the wrong word, maybe profile fits better. Or maybe I'm just imagining it - it's not that I felt he was disliked, more underrated

I just can't stand him. I just don't get the love in. I believe there are various artists that you and others haven't time for as well?
Of course - but I can appreciate the talent. The 'love in' is because he's probably the best British actor out there at the moment.

As for Adolescence - what a programme that is. Everything about it is absolutely top tier. The acting across the board is very special (and not just SG - everyone in it is amazing. Especially episode 3), the subject matter hits very hard, and the technical marvel of each episode being done in a single shot is astonishing (especially episode 2 - some very tricky panning shots - it's unbelievable to think how much detail has gone into it). But it's so good as a drama that I stopped wondering 'how the hell have they done this in a single take?' as I was so wrapped up in the actual drama.

Best thing I've seen on TV in absolutely ages.

That's subjective. I would put Gary Oldman, David Tennant and Michael Sheen ahead as an example, IMV, IMHO...

I think Tom Hanks is a terrible actor, wooden and unnatural. Everyone else loves him.
He is in some great films though.
