The Goggle Box Thread

Leave the World Behind on Netflix was good, I love a bit of dystopia me.

The score was magnificent.

Even if you aren't a fan of Dr Who, the Alan Yentob Imagine documentary with Russell T Davies last night was a very good watch.

FINALLY got round to starting The Last of Us. Only up to episode 4 but it's a lot better than I expected. True to the game, yet so much better than any other game adaptation I can think of.

The chemistry between Joel and Ellie is amazing.

Oh - and episode 3 (the one with Nick Offerman) - might have been good but the room was very dusty so I couldn't watch it properly....

My front room has suddenly got all dusty reading this about Caroline Aherne.

She was absolutely, undeniably brilliant and somehow it still doesn't seem real that she isn't with us any more.
Watched the show about her on BBC Two last night. Very much recommended.

1) It does keep getting dusty in here, I must do something about that

2) Great memories of just how funny she was, especially the Mrs Merton stuff which I haven't seen properly in 25+ years

3) On the above, she absolutely nailed that racist bastard Bernard Manning

4) Does gloss over a few things (marriage to Peter Hook, Mrs Merton & Malcolm which was genuinely terrible, the post-Queen of Sheba Royle Family episodes that were more than a bit phoned in) but that's fine, it's a tribute, not a forensic analysis

5) Another show that highlights how awful the press was in the 90s/00s

6) Only touches on the edges of it and everyone's journey is different, but some bits might give you a tiny insight into what bipolar is like in a way that I can't properly articulate

Started watching The Golden Hour on Netflix last night, plenty of rave reviews about it and the first episode was really good. I'll give episode 2 a whirl later.

Been watching Winter King on ITVx, so far so good. The books are my favourite version of the Arthurian legend so my hopes are probably a bit high.

On a related note, does anyone have trouble with ITVx? Don't use it often but everything I do the streaming is a bit clunky, freezes quite a lot which is bloody frustrating. It's possibly my equipment, an old firestick, although I have no issues with any other streaming services.

it's not you, ITVX is just terrible. Look at the comments on their ads on social media, it's full of people panning it.
For me, every time it goes to an advert it's a lottery if the next bit will play. Then it's impossible to pick up where you left off.
I've completely given up on it, might try to get a cheap set top recorder for what little ITV stuff I watch.

I had given up on it but I particularly wanted to see this show.

I have the same problem with it freezing during ads, hit rewind then play and it normally resumes but find it works better on my Firestick than on the TV Box

Mine freezes during the programme too sometimes, it's crap.
I'm a complete Duffus when it comes to tech but I don't understand why it's so bad, surely the technology is similar to BBC iplayer, never had an issue with that.

Another problem with players is wheh fast forwarding or rewinding and some don't have a counter to indicate how far you're going. BBC iplayer I find you press rewind and it either goes back a couple of seconds or about half an hour even if pressed momentarily

It's strange with ITV, because Hub worked okay, not great but okay. Now there is the new version X and it's unusable.
Didn't they test the new version and find it was crap?

(Sudden thought: if it's called X and it doesn't work properly, is Elon Musk involved… 🤔)

Tbf I found the Hub to be even worse!

I guess the only difference between Hub and X is a lick of paint.

Must be some software change because X doesn't have a compatible app for my TV whereas there was an inbuilt Hub app.

Or they couldn’t be arsed to do the lick of paint.. it does support full HD now so there is that.

Wolves aside, it was the best thing that I watched over Christmas.
