We won't be paying players what they were in the Championship, but haven't we also mortgaged the future tv money?
We have been known to, but can only get advances on what we will definitely receive in a given season. Borrowing against a future season's parachute payments sounds dangerously high risk as a strategy and the cost of that borrowing must be huge.We won't be paying players what they were in the Championship, but haven't we also mortgaged the future tv money?
It’s utter madness if you have players on PL wages and there’s a chance you’ll end up paying those salaries in L1. I’m sure they thought they’d be challenging for a return to the PL, which again is utter madness when you’ve got Skipp and Winks in midfield. We have been known to, but can only get advances on what we will definitely receive in a given season. Nathan Shi says : “Hold my beer”!Parachute payments are good in principle, to ease the financial burden of being outside the PL.
Unfortunately clubs instead use it as a war chest to get back up.

That gives them access to a credit facility, it doesn't man they have used it. Realistically given the players we have sold, bought and staged payments I would imagine we are not too much in the hole.£100m in the hole over 6 years as reported by Kieran Maguire and LL last September

Regis Le Bris' job as Sunderland manager is not safe this summer, talkSPORT understands.
The Black Cats could look to make a change in the dugout if they fail to qualify for Europe.
Ambitious owners Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and Juan Sartori have not ruled out eyeing potential replacements for Le Bris.
Sunderland are currently 11th in the Premier League with five matches remaining.
However, they find themselves just two points adrift of the European places ahead of Friday's clash with Nottingham Forest.
The Black Cats' only previous continental campaign saw them reach the second round of the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1973/74.
Le Bris, who was appointed in the summer of 2024, has two years remaining on his contract.
The Frenchman guided Sunderland back to the Premier League via the play-offs last season following a nine-year absence.
Yeah but we hear we should persevere with RE as he loves ot here, deserves a chance and has great hairMadness on the face of things
Let’s not bring his looks into it; I need to stay clear-minded when calling for his job.Yeah but we hear we should persevere with RE as he loves ot here, deserves a chance and has great hair
Agreed. From a personal point of view I have never watched MOTD less than I have this season. It does feel like it's from a different time. I doubt MOTD has more than a few years left in it either.
