Hmmm, so if what usually happens in these situations did so here The Sun were going to out him and he was given the 'opportunity' to tell his story instead
Had to look up who that was.Sky Sports making him sound like Harvey Milk this morning. Makes sense if he made a deal with the Sun.
Had to look up who that was.
The problem is there massively Chelsea at home in April 2023 would say so. Probably would be accepted by fellow pro’s but it’s probably more the crowd. The it’s “banter” and “grow thicker skin” isn’t justified reason either. He is right though isn’t he? Making a story out of something that isn’t a story just fuels the problem.
Exactly this. His subtext is "I did these bad things because I am gay".I do think it’s being used as a convenient distraction by Coote to cover his idiotic behaviour which isn’t excusable regardless.
I disagree.I don't think that is what he is saying (or attempting to say). It's a far more complex issue than that.
He is suggesting that owing to the risks of abuse within the game, he felt it safer to hide his real self. He effectively lived a double life, not being able to be true to who he is/was.
To do this is exceptionally challenging and duplicitous. You're essentially "on guard" all the time, being hyper vigilant to risks, and the fear of exposing yourself. It also means that self perception is skewed, in as much as who is the real you - the one you're hiding, or the one who is out in public but is fake.
Prior to the decriminalisation of homosexuality, lots of men lived this way. The suicide rate for those people was off the scale compared to the rest of society.
He is saying that living this double life, and having more than one persona affected his self perception, and thus his self esteem. As a result, he engaged in unhealthy behaviours and self medication.
He is absolutely not saying he did this stuff because he is gay.
In a world with less rampant homophobia, maybe. That’s not the world we live in, though. He is right though isn’t he? Making a story out of something that isn’t a story just fuels the problem.
It really isn't. If you think life is that simplistic and basic, then I am not sure what else to say. Why don't other gay men act the same way? Answer, because being gay isn't the reason for that behaviour.I disagree.
You're using a lot of words here:
"He is saying that living this double life, and having more than one persona affected his self perception, and thus his self esteem. As a result, he engaged in unhealthy behaviours and self medication."
For him blaming his behaviour on being gay.
He's saying if he wasn't gay he wouldn't have done the things he did. It is as simple as that.
He is, and you are also saying it.It really isn't. If you think life is that simplistic and basic, then I am not sure what else to say.
