The Football News Thread 2024/25

It’s a political statement though, surely?

What the Poppy or McLean stance? The poppy isn’t and McLean believes it would be morally wrong for him to wear it due to his Derry roots and British forces behaviour on “bloody sunday” he doesn’t advocate for others not to wear it just himself so it’s not a political protest. His problem is he is very, very vocal about his choice and is very antagonistic.

He's not the only one, Matic for one never used to. The reason McClean gets the publicity he does is because of the way he goes about it. If I were a Catholic from Derry I wouldn't either, so I support his reasons for not wearing it

There's other players who don't wear the poppy and fair enough, Matic used to not either but it's the behaviors that come alongside and the intentional antagonism.

EDIT: See Tony beat me to it.

Assuming he graduated he's got a degree from a Russell Group uni, which isn't going to count for much come tomorrow morning

Incredible how folks don’t seem to understand where the line is. In what world would that be acceptable?

Clearly going to regret it. What a stupid thing to do.

There appears to be no line for some Wednesday fans First it was Bradley Lowery, second it was an Albion fan dying in the stand and now this.

Lego man haircut usually points out who the twats are, so you can avoid them.
Apologies to anyone on here with the same haircut.

Not sure it's something that can be leveled with much specificity tbh, or if that's even useful. I remember Neymar getting a banana thrown at him in 2011 (fuck me that's 13 years ago) in a friendly against Scotland, which was being played somewhere in England (somewhere in London IIRC).

Seems to me that some people think any old dipshit behavior is justified or otherwise alleviated by being in the context of football/sport. "Just bantz", as I used to hear, although I feel like that defense is trotted out much less often these days than even the early 2010s.

Anywho. Could be that I'm being too generous as I have an inexplicable soft spot for Wednesday.
