The Football News Thread 2024/25

Not sure it's something that can be leveled with much specificity tbh, or if that's even useful. I remember Neymar getting a banana thrown at him in 2011 (fuck me that's 13 years ago) in a friendly against Scotland, which was being played somewhere in England (somewhere in London IIRC).

Seems to me that some people think any old dipshit behavior is justified or otherwise alleviated by being in the context of football/sport. "Just bantz", as I used to hear, although I feel like that defense is trotted out much less often these days than even the early 2010s.

Anywho. Could be that I'm being too generous as I have an inexplicable soft spot for Wednesday
One of my best mates follows Wednesday and finds such behaviour acutely embarrassing. Obviously you can’t tar all their support with the same brush but after the previous two incidents got extensive coverage you’d have hoped their fans in particular would stop and think about how doing something in such poor taste would be received. Obviously the idiot fancied a change of job.

Say it ain't so

I went to an England game vs Brazil in 2007 and was in the same pub as both him and John Portsmouth Football Club Woodward.

I can still smell it now.

Emotional return to hosting football shows on the cards for a forum favourite……

Gammons will get properly frothy when he tweets his usual stuff re immigrants/refugees and they won’t be able to tell the BBC to sack him, or moan about how much the BBC pays him either.
He might be fairly hard to replace as well, respected footballer, makes the presenting look really easy

The rest is football plus whatever other gigs he gets on the side will give him plenty of enough platform to talk about football without having to kiss Tim Davie's arse

He'll still be doing the 2026 World Cup too it seems.

I'll miss him but it's a very long run he's had. Des Lynam left the BBC in 2001 and he's been the main man ever since. I might not want to admit that 2001, Nathan Blake, Colin Cameron and Alex Rae is a long time ago, but it really is :D

Yeah it's been a long time and he probably fancies a change but I'm a bit of a gammon and I don't like change😁 also I'm a bit of a 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' guy.
I'm gearing myself up for a rant about how shit the new person is.

Old news at this point, but in what was a hilarious result for me personally, Inter Messi (and Friends) got knocked out of the MLS Playoffs in Round 1, beaten by an Atlanta team that finished the season 34 points below Miami.

Of course, the downside is that if Charlotte hadn't given up a 102' equalizer and then lost the shootout against Orlando on Saturday, we'd be hosting Atlanta in the next round. C'est la vie.

I can't imagine what it must feel like finishing miles ahead of the team that knocks you out of the playoffs... Maybe not 34 points though!
