It was her friends Instagram that posted it I think. She'd shared it with her friend previously.

And the audio clip is only a short 1 min out of a 15 min recording. I haven't listened to it as it will just sicken me and make me angry.

I agree with her tactics, it's better to convince everyone first and not get slut shamed and not believed by any one.
Not going to listen to the audo but the transcript of it is describing rape. Not keen on hearing that.

How come police wear wires then? Not being a dick just genuinely curious.
As Johnny said, it has to go through a very strict process before it can be carried out - it's covered under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers act. They take all sorts into account, for example if the recording is likely to pick up people not under suspicion it might get rejected as that would breach article 8 of the humans rights act, which relates to the right of privacy

Yeah I understand all of that, so it's just not all clandestine recordings then basically.

I started listening and stopped. Found it very disturbing, both what was happening and the morbid curiosity that would make someone want to listen to it too. Just feel desperately sorry for the girl.

In terms of the rights and wrongs of going to social media, I can’t say I blame her one bit. After listening to the bit I did I can’t imagine her further pain of going through the conventional channels and getting nowhere. This cuts right through. There’s no getting Greenwood off the hook this way and hopefully the girl will get justice she deserves.

I'm not entirely sure as IIRC there are cases where they've used video footage from Ring doorbells and Amazon Alexa's to convict before now

Police cameras and so on are acceptable. There have been cases where doorbell cams have actually been not so much as inadmissable as to be court ruled to be removed as they infringe privacy rules. It's not impossible to get this admitted, but I can tell you unless you find a jury of twelve deaf blind people who have no interest in football and never have access to media news, you aren't getting a conviction on that tape.

Her dad's comments are...strange
Yep

"She has told us her phone has been hacked. We told her to take it down, which she has done but it's out there now so it is too late.
"She is devastated because she didn't want it released. We have known him since the under 21s. He has been part of our family for two or three years.
"Their relationship has not been good for the last few months. She is completely devastated by it all.
"They were very much in love and have been together for a while. The police are dealing with it now."

Are they strange?

Reads to me that they are trying not to prejudice any case or open themselves up to a law suit.

That's classic victim who still loves the abuser now wishing they hadn't made it public. Except done by her relatives

Read two me that they are trying not to produce any case it open themselves up to a law suit.
Just reads like a confused message to me for all involved

I wouldn't expect a statement of any kind at this stage, but if you are making one it lacks the upset/anger/compassion for his daughter I'd expect.

I have no doubt they've been briefed by a PR consultant/ lawyer on what to say.

The cynic in me reads that statement as a sudden realisation that his daughter, and him by proxy, is no longer set for life as the partner of a multimillionaire professional athlete, and desperately trying to backpedal into more neutral territory where they can salvage the situation.

Or perhaps young Mason's threats aren't limited to the bedrooms of women who aren't interested in shagging him?

Yep that was my thinking as well with regards first paragraph.

To me it reads like he is covering his daughter's ass.

Say the leak wasn't her fault, then play down any language that might influence a jury that his family now has any vendetta against him. They want to remove any emotional hatred and let the evidence stand on its own.

Any jury is utterly compromised. Thats why she made sure to take his career out instead

If she didn't intend for it to leak, I would imagine she feels quite threatened by Greenwood. The public statement seems to me to be a way to relieve her of any retaliation (as much as possible) by Greenwood should nothing come of this.
