Agreed. Pointless rebrand, no doubt suggested by a bunch of consultants, and then a few quid burned on a completely shite logo.

On the "E" bit with Cardiff and Newport in there, it is the Scottish Football League with Berwick in that competition so it isn't without precedent. The point is that the clubs are affiliated to the FA rather than the Welsh FA for purposes of where they compete.

Have they changed that with Cardiff now? I remember the Welsh FA rescinding a pretty nailed on red card for Darren Purse just before the FA Cup final when they got there vs Portsmouth. Of course the downside for Cardiff being that Darren Purse was now an option.

It was rescinded (I THINK) when Cardiff got to the FA Cup final. If they wanted to go into Europe it had to be through FA affiliation. Same with Swansea making the League Cup final. So I guess it applied from the season AFTER that FA Cup final?

Would make sense. Although FC Vaduz represent Liechtenstein in European football despite playing in the Swiss league, the shady bastards.

Got taken for dinner by the Polish bosses last night, to a gastro pub style place, which was showing some MLS play-off between Dallas and Seattle.

As much as we take the piss out of MLS, it wasn't a bad watch, full of drama, Dallas went 1 up in the 83rd min, only for Seattle to equalise in the 90th, before Dallas scored a minute later, which levelled things up as it was a two legged tie. Extra time was shite, Clint Dempsey diving in the box in the cheapest way possible, but the penalties were very good, the little Dallas goalie Hernandez saved 2 and got close to a 3rd.

The standard of the game was better than I've seen in other MLS games, some crisp passing and neat touches, however they have no ball control and can't head the ball or shoot from outside the box. Some have compared MLS to League 1, I'd say it's more like the top end of the SPL

It's a really bad quality. But they play proper football on good pitches. They also have less cloggers, as Americans or more athletic. The defending is comical, but probably more because they don't have great understanding for the game, whereas defenders in England are normally good defenders but playing at a lower level as don't have the technical ability and/or physical attributes I.e Danny batth

Antoine Griezmann says that his sister was at the Bataclan Theatre during the hostage situation but managed to escape.

Lassana Diarra's cousin was not so lucky and died during the attacks, though I'm unclear on where he was (stadium, restaurant, or theater).

Wasn't sure where else to put this, but I've just seen the following stat:

Franco Baresi and Paolo Maldini played 196 matches together for AC Milan...

...and conceded just 29 goals.

Is this correct? I know we're talking about two of the greatest defenders to have ever graced the game, but that is astonishing!

No chance.

It's almost certainly not right. For a start, Maldini became a regular for Milan in 1985/86 and Baresi was in the team right up until he retired in 1996/97, so Milan played WAY more than 196 games in the league alone in that timespan and it's pretty unlikely given the number of games both played that one or the other would be missing over 100 times in that period.

Secondly, just to pick a couple of seasons at random, Milan conceded 27 goals in 1989/90 and 21 goals in 1991/92 - both astonishingly good records in their own right, well under a goal per game. But that adds up to 48 conceded - we're supposed to believe they conceded 29 EVER with those two on the pitch. Over those two seasons, Baresi played 63 games and Maldini played 61 out of a possible 68 each, so there is no way that there was much gametime that one was missing. And that's just two years out of 12.

Sounds nice but quite clearly you can prove it's bollocks.

Leyton Orient players punished by being confined to a hotel following a poor run of form.

A - Being confined to a hotel is hardly punishment...

B - League Two sides in hotels...??

It is only a few months since he was in trouble with Tim Sherwood. Clearly he learnt nothing from that episode.

I don't see the big issue, they played, they lost, he got on with his life.

Nothing in the article showed that he was drinking anything, or indeed taking anything else. Still an error of judgement, and he clearly has a mate who likes to talk to the press, so he needs to deal with that.

Finally some better news for Northampton today. Kelvin Thomas has completed his takeover, paid the £166k owing to HMRC, and come to a deal with the council so that the club are not pursued for the missing £10m loan. In return the council will get control of land around the ground for development, and it will be David Cardoza and the chain of shady companies who will be chased for the allegedly stolen money (as well as the police now being involved).

Juergen Klopp says that Sturridge needs to manage pain if he is to overcome his injury problems. And to be fair, he does seem to have an awful lot of injuries.
