So we've moved from:

'All criminals convicted of violent/sexual offences should be banned'

To

'Some criminals convicted of violent/sexual offences should be banned'

To

'Remorseful criminals convicted of violent/sexual offences should be able to play, but those who aren't remorseful shouldn't'

It's a minefield the game cannot enter. I repeat - I would not want Ched Evans here. But you cannot ban him.
Why not? Because it is too difficult? Nonsense.
Taking the easy option is not usually the best option.
There are a number of careers where he would not be able to return to. There are other careers which much lesser stuff prevents you from being involved in. A police Officer would lose their job if declared bankrupt. Not in the same ball park as raping someone, but more significant for that persons career.

Set me some parameters then for what is and isn't acceptable in what is let's face it, a pretty amoral footballing world.

Would you have banned Troy Deeney for life?

Kenny - I think our treatment of Jimmy Kelly and Chris Cornes is testament to how our club views matters and I'm happy to be on board with that.

Of course not. But Twitter nonsense is not really part of the debate.

I'm not sure why 'man acts like knob on Twitter and action is taken' is even news now, it happens every day.

With the likes of Ched Evans - it comes down to the individual I suppose. Would I stop going if Wolves signed him - instinctively yes. I stopped going because of Dean Saunders after all and he was guilty of nothing more than being a fucking idiot. But many people would reconcile themselves to it and eventually the club wouldn't really care, as not enough people would have made enough of a stand to make any difference.

This is actually part of the problem. At the same time, we make exceptions for football when we really shouldn't.

I'll try. I don't have the answers, & would probably need to work through them & the principles behind them. However, I'll posit the following;
Anyone convicted of a sexual offence - registration with-held until 18 months following completion of sentence. Therefore no club can sign them. But they can train with a club on release until the 18 months is up.

I know some albion fans who stopped going re lee hughes.

Well done to Jessica Ennis for making a stand on this issue. I hope Sheffield United realise that people do not want a convicted rapist playing for their team.

Former Barcelona President Josep Lluis Núñez jailed for 26 months for tax fraud

Sturridge could be out until Christmas after suffering another thigh injury. He is certainly not having any luck this season.

ITV are going to bid for the highlights package in advance of MOTD's deal running out at the end of 2015/16. Please don't let that happen again. Even if they offer more money, don't give it to them.

Andy Townsend's tactics truck is ready to come out of storage

Oh god no. The thought sends me cold.

I rarely watch MoTD now. It's a tired old format and the vast majority of the pundits annoy me! I tend to record it and fast forward through the "analysis". I think if it was on ITV I may have to do the same, as well as mute the sound, if I was to bother watching it at all.

Could even be grounds for a sky sports subscription in order to watch Football First!

I've a feeling the BBC know that they're about to lose MOTD. For the last couple of years they've been showing more and more women's football, as if they sense that that's where their future as a football broadcaster lies.

I think the analysis on MOTD has improved greatly since the nadir of around two years ago. Shearer is an infinitely better pundit now than he was then. Of course if you're fast forwarding through it then you won't know either way...

Same here - I think MOTD is a decent show, and it's always on the Sky box. I prefer it to Goals on Sunday, always have done.

I really hope ITV don't get it - ideally they'll lose all the football packages they've foolishly been given. Fuck how much they're bidding for it, anyone with eyes can see they are incapable of broadcasting a decent football show, be it a live game or highlights. They're absolutely terrible. But of course, it'll come down to who flashes the most cash rather than any meaningful research into the quality of their coverage, or event he public response to it.

For me the annoying thing is that they can do it. Matt Smith is irritating but infinitely preferable to Chiles - and when he's doing the CL highlights show with the likes of Philippe Auclair and Raf Honigstein, or when they get someone like Bilic in to do the international highlights, it's actually not bad at all. But they insist on using Chiles, Wright and Hoddle for the big events which always leads to an unacceptable product. I'd love to know who actually believes Chiles is a capable broadcaster or why he has carte blanche to try to give his own stupid opinions (have a look at Ed Chamberlain on MNF - he doesn't jump in over G-Nev and Carragher's points, he knows he is just the presenter).

If they got the Premier League highlights they would inevitably just stuff it full with a calvacade of idiocy and it'd be borderline unwatchable.

Their commentators are pretty much uniformly awful, Clive n' Andy, Peter Dreary, Clarke "non-sequitur" Carlisle, just fuck off.

Elsewhere, looks like Daley Blind is out for the season which is a massive blow to United. They aren't going to make the top four again the way it's looking.

Edit: Or not, Sky with some top reporting managed to mishear what LVG said.
