I would've thought if Nuno went for this type of system he would've bought in that player by now. I think he's quite happy with what he has. I'm also not sure we have a right back to do the job he wants them to do in that formation as I haven't seen German Phil play yet, Doherty certainly can't do that role and I would say Marshall couldn't either.
 
Having been promoted to the top division of Hampshire County Youth League, we've started pretty well with a win and a draw! The league is looking weaker but it's a good opportunity for us to be at the top end. We've got the FA youth Cup up next week.

Our forward had an eventful weekend. He scored the winner in the last minute of the extra time for the first team in the FA Vase, and then scored a hat trick for us. Him and three others from my squad are in the squad for the 1st team tomorrow!

Unfortunately he was targeted by the opposition defence early on and their left back racially abused him. The fact this is happening amongst u18s footballers horrifies me. I didn't hear the alleged incident but he came to my as soon as it happened and another of our players heard the comment too. Have reported it to the County FA and Kick It out's reporting officer but it's a tricky situation as the referee didn't hear it and I doubt the opposition would admit to it even if they did hear it.
 
Awful that it's happening at that level but I guess you've done all you can by reporting it to the correct authorities.

Lionel Messi is casting the false #9 role (reaping rewards) as opposed to playing right-wing and Luis Suarez, predominantly an archetypal #9 is emulating the David Villa/Thierry Henry role, manoeuvring and operating on the left-hand-side, tasked with differentiating his game from more central zones to a more wing orientated approach. On the right-hand-side Ousmane Dembélé is emulating Pedro’s role, roaming and utilising the wing with his speed and 1v1 ability.


To find that equilibrium which made the Guardiola 08-12 front trident (Villa-Messi-Pedro) go down in the history books, the impetus is on the two wide forwards (Suárez/Dembélé) to act as wide outlets, and make runs in behind the opposition’s defence leaving Messi to control central areas. Messi’s occupation of zone 14 enables the opposition’s backline to push up, which will fabricate space for the off the ball runners to exploit. Thus, the opposing team have a conundrum; do they press Messi, breaking their defensive line and risk opening channels for the wide forwards to attack, or, step off and let him have time in central zones (where he is most dangerous) which will undoubtedly lead to chances created.

Had my first visit for the UEFA B course, and must say I think things are heading in a good direction with the new courses. I'd like to think I'm fairly confident anyway but I had no nerves because I didn't feel under pressure at any point, in an attempt to tick boxes. Meant I could structure the session and coach within my own style, to the standard that they are looking for. Additionally, as it was with my own team it meant it was a realistic environment rather than coaching lots of knackered coaches have been taking part in sessions all day. Do think we will quickly see an improvement in standard of coaches, perhaps at youth level but hopefully beyond as there will be more creative coaches, rather than the ones who have ticked the boxes or been a former pro.
 
That sounds miles better than the forced nonsense I had to endure on my B course. It was as unrealistic as you could imagine.

Yeah, I remember going to an assessment day. Lots of people who 'didn't feel ready', lots of nerves, lots of tired legs after a couple of the sessions and as you can imagine the standard of coaching wasn't brilliant. Even for myself, I came away wondering if I would want to be in that situation because I couldn't see who it benefitted.
 
Would love to have the overhead camera view while watching World Cup matches to enable a review of certain passages of play. Couldn't that facility go on the red button?

Cheers, should pay more attention. Usually just tune in for match only and skip mostly everything else. Hardly ever use BBC website.
 
Great concept from Mauricio Pochettino..... When you sign a contract as a football player, you sign a contract to train, playing is a privelige that must be earned.
