The Fitness Thread

My recovery has been really good TBF - did a 6km run yesterday and that helped LOADS, so much so that all the aches from my legs have gone. Good job as I'm running the Brum half a week on Sunday.

Unfortunately my toes took a battering, I'm going to lose 7 toenails eventually and my big toes are the worst affected. They were fine during yesterday's run as I wore my Evo SLs and the upper is mega thin and light so there wasn't any pressure on them, but they do not like being cramped in my work shoes today. Ouch.

7! Man those shoes are not good. I have some SLs but rarely take them over 10k. I love them but they feel too unstable for longer runs.

I only lost 2 toenails doing the Black Country ultra and that involved running through a flooded tunnel.

Edit - my bad, I read that as you did the marathon in the SLs 😅

I sheared off a toenail as a kid and the idea of going through that seven times is repulsive.

You marathoners are a different breed.

During third lockdown I was doing 10 miles three times a week, I didn't have little toe toenails for months...

Nah ran the marathon in my Adios Pro 4s. Never had any problem with them (and these are my 2nd pair), but your feet swell up over the course of a marathon so I think it was unavoidable. They were mega comfy TBF, lots of energy return. I only noticed the damage to my feet when I took them off after the race!

I always go a half size up for feet swelling, not had issues in normal marathons. I’d hope it’s not unavoidable!

I go half a size up in Adidas shoes normally. I wonder if it's because it was my first marathon? And also, these are pretty new shoes - I'd only worn them twice before, the furthest I ran in them was about 16km. No hint of any issues before - no blisters, no hot spots.

One to put down to experience maybe?

Might be the newness? When your big toenail falls off completely it will be fun :)

Hi guys, wasn't sure if I should do a separate Thread for this but, I guess, here will do... As many may be aware, I am going to be running the Northallerton 10k on Sunday 24th May.
I am doing this to raise donations for my Air Cadet Squadron and would appreciate any help you could give. I know that times are hard for us all but any donation, no matter how small, will go to helping the development of the kids that come through my squadron and the Air Cadet system.
For those who don't know, the Royal Air Force Air Cadets (RAFAC) is a volunteer-military youth organisation in the UK sponsored by the Royal Air Force. It comprises the Air Training Corps (ATC) and the RAF sections of the Combined Cadet Force (CCF), serving approximately 43,000 cadets supported by 10,000 adult volunteers. The organisation focuses on personal development, citizenship, and a practical interest in aviation, though it is not a direct recruitment tool for the RAF.

Thank you for your support

I think I'll count myself lucky that I only lost one toenail after the Yorkshire marathon last year!
