Yep. Good (if awful) story, great performances but you feel every minute of the running time. Oppenheimer was long but didn't seem it, this one really drags.

Not one of his best. The Irishman was long but I was gripped the whole time.

Could have said what it had to say in 2 hours. Leo's weird bulldog face grated after a while, and Brendan Fraser's cameo was top tier awful and a tonal shocker.

Quite disappointing considering the hype and reviews, but then again I don't think Scorsese has made a great film since 1995

I felt similar about the Irishman tbh. I'll watch his regular actors do the dishes for three hours but both are a bit ponderous.

I think there are a few good ones since Casino in '95. The Departed, Gangs of New York, The Aviator, Bringing out The Dead are all worth watching. I loved Wolf of Wall Street. Shutter Island was a dud though.

Think there are flashes of brilliance and some pretty good films here and there (The Departed probably most consistent for me, couldn't stand WOWS), but I think he's lost his mojo as he's got older.

Still a great thinker and speaker on film and culture, and after 50+ years he doesn't owe us anything!

I'm not sure any prolific director is going to be seen as mojo-full as their early glory days. I'd still rather watch a new Scorsese than a film by almost any other director, even if it's unlikely to be another Mean Streets.

I agree. However, if you get chance, watch 'The Continental'. A 3 part prequel to Winston's acquisition of the hotel. It's on Prime.

Oh, and the soundtrack is awesome.

Just started watching it and the first episode is fucking brilliant, miles better than any of the films. I was going to binge it but the episodes are long enough to feel like a movie and I want it to last, it was that good.

And yeah the soundtrack is bang on.

The Killer on Netflix, really enjoyed it last night. Fassbender is really good in it and the soundtrack would leave @Deutsch Wolf moist, class film. I mean I never thought I’d hear Girlfriend in a Coma in a movie but there you go, it’s done.

Dead Man's Shoes on Film 4, watched it again, last night, for the umpteenth time, still doesn't disappoint

Went to see Napoleon this afternoon. Wore a funny hat, liked food, wars and shagging like an animal in an Attenborough doc. 2hrs and 40 mins summed up. It's a film that tries to cover so much, that it doesn't really do anything justice other than probably his relationship with Josephine. Best bit is nobody is trying to do accents, they just speak in their own voice, then Archie the Inventor from Balamory pops up and does comedy German / Austrian.

The story is just too massive for one film. It took 2 hours plus to cover the 100 days and one battle out of four important engagements with Waterloo (Ligny gets a brief mention but nothing of Quatre Bras or Wavre as I remember). Plus Waterloo is an amazing brilliant film and a very high bar for Napoleon to come close to it.

You could easily make the story of Napoleon into at least five long films.

Agree with this. It would surely make more sense to focus on one thing and tell that story. It's like trying to make a 3 hour film about the whole of World War 2. Impossible. That said, from the trailers some of the set piece battle scenes look spectacular in Napoleon.
