The Film Thread

Evil Dead Rise. If you're into demons, possession and plenty of gore then watch it. If you're not, don't. I enjoyed it for what it was.

Book thread possibly but I have just spent ages zooming in and out on this. Might get it printed

Wow that's a lot of made up words.

As Tolkien invented new languages as part of the development of Middle Earth you probably shouldn’t be surprised.

They've made a film/documentary about Leonard Cohen and Hallelujah. Can't imagine anything better.

Actually if you're a Leonard Cohen fan don't watch this in a public place; it's fantastic but a tough watch.

Edit - actually if you're not a Leonard Cohen fan wtf is wrong with you?

The Flash is properly entertaining. Affleck is a rubbish Batman but once they switch to Keaton's universe it's great.

Asteroid City is getting a lot of hype at the moment. It looks like the sort of film I'll love so I hope it's not hype over substance. I've generally really liked Wes Andersons's films and they don't usually lack substance so I'm optimistic.

Wes Anderson's earlier stuff was decent enough but around Moonrise Kingdom I started absolutely hating his films. His new one actually looks alright this time though so I'll probably watch it.

Watched Summer of Soul on Disney+ the other night. Really fucking good. Documentary about a blues, gospel, soul festival that took place in Harlem in '69 - the same year as Woodstock. All filmed but the footage just set in a basement until 2020ish. Amazing line up, incredible performances and some brilliant footage. Almost exclusively live footage with a few vox pops for good measure. Highly recommended.

Moonrise Kingdom is probably my fav

Hard to rank but:

Moonrise Kingdom
Grand Budapest
Rushmore
Royal Tenembaums
Life Aquatic
Darjeeling
Bottle Rocket
French Dispatch (too thick for this one)

Animated:

Fantastic Mr Fox
Isle of Dogs

Already wanna change that round. As I say, hard to rank. Looking forward to the new one, no idea what it's about

Watched the new Transformer's over the weekend.

Absolutely horrendous. Good action, but the story itself and the acting wasn't up to snuff.

2.5/10.

saw yesterday June 25th was the anniversary of the release of both bladerunner and the thing from 1982. Both masterpieces. gonna have to do a double rewatch soon.

Watched Mr. Bean's Holiday over the weekend. Been a few years since I saw it, but still just as hilarious as ever.
