The Film Thread

Misery, Carrie, The Shining, The Dead Zone and Christine are all brilliant films. I think the best one is Stand By Me.

IT is a great book but the screen adaptations are fairly poor.

Never managed to get past half way through the Dark Road film. Book is great.

By the way - the Dark Half is a very underrated King read. Love the concept, and it just reads so easily.

Got the house to myself tonight so might put a film on, just don’t know which one. Got Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and Bronson at the top of the list at the moment but keep spotting others that look OK. I always end up picking a shit one in the end.

‘Salem’s Lot is class as well. I’m surprised there aren’t any more recent games on his books, his early stuff was so good they should make great films. Never watched the remake of The Shining as it looks shit and there’s no point because no Nicholson. At least the first part of It was miles better than the Tim Curry one.

Joe Hill (aka Stephen King Jr) has had a couple of adaptations made recently. In The Tall Grass came out this week on Netflix and NOS4A2 has been out a couple of months.

Was looking at that Tall Grass earlier, didn’t realise it was Hill. His Locke & Key comics were really good, might give that a watch.

Girl with a dragon tattoo is good.

Girl with a dragon tattoo is good.

If it's the original Swedish version it's brilliant. Tough to watch in places but brilliant. The English language version is a typical Fincher film, very stylish and easy to watch.

The Swedish version is a lot better than the EL version.

The books are ace, the second book (The girl who played with fire) in particular is a top read. All 3 Swedish films are very good.

Yes, they are all good. I enjoyed both the Swedish and US film, different feel to both and almost like they were different stories.

I read the 4th book done from his notes recently, definitely not worth the effort.

I've been meaning to watch both for years, think I'll start with the US one as I'm way too knackered to be reading subtitles tonight.

Talking of Fincher Zodiac is on my watchlist as well.

I haven't read either follow up book because of the poor reviews. The conspiracy theory on Larsson himself is a perfect, if sad, ending to the series.

Salems Lot is the best King adaptation. Shining very close 2nd.

The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile are also pretty decent film adaptations of King stories. I mean Shawshank is one of the 50 best films ever made... Now there's an idea for a thread.

It was done a while ago, I think the top three where Sharknado, The Meg and Indiana Jones & The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull :)

Enjoyed Dragon Tattoo, probably the second best revenge scene ever behind Law Abiding Citizen.
