The Film Thread

The Iron Man films are incredibly plain. My favourite Marvel film is Deadpool.

Deadpool is fabulous. Ant Man is also brilliant. All the Avengers films are great. I love Civil War (pretty close to the original comics which was pleasing as it is one of my favourite Marvel EVENTS). Winter Soldier was good. The first Thor film is fucking awesome. Guardians of the Galaxy are both ace.

It sounds like Wonder Woman has got DC back on track. Which is good news, as Batman vs Superman was absolute excrement

I haven't seen Wonderwoman but will soon. Unfortunately for the DC universe it has Zach Snyder at the helm and he's as bad a director as a Nolan is excellent.

Snyder directs overlong, overblown tediously boring action sequences (not quite Michael Bay but not far away) and much like M Night Shyamalan he's getting jobs on the basis of one good film.

I'm with you on the Marvel Universe and I've enjoyed them all. Deadpool is the best for me.

Wonder Woman is great - I really enjoyed it. I thought it was directed by Patty Jenkins?

I haven't explained that very well as that's what I meant. It isn't directed by the mess that is Zach Snyder.

Snyder's Sucker Punch is one of the worst films I've ever seen.

War for the Planet of the Apes - top drawer stuff with the story drawn from the American civil war, humanities self destruction and how we treat other humans. A very good end to the trilogy and one of the best trilogies in recent memory.

Spiderman Homecoming was a lot of fun, I really enjoyed it

Went to see this last weekend, I really enjoyed it too as I do most of the Marvel stuff to be fair.

I think Batman vs Superman is the worst film I have ever seen. I watched it online, and I thought that it must have been skipping parts as it just made no sense at all until I realised it was just SHIT

Dunkirk. Very very good, but not as good as I thought it would be.

Beautifully shot, with constant tension building through a constant violin arpeggio and the screams of the stukas being incorporated into the soundtrack.

Definitely catch it in the cinema, the sounds of the dive bombers and the shells landing are much better on the big screen.
Great acting but for me, the highlight was the stuff in the air with the spitfires. I am fascinated with these gorgeous airplanes, and Christopher Nolan has really done them justice, beautiful scenes of spitfires sailing through the clouds and swooping down behind the Heinkels.
There wasn't a whole lot of stuff on the beach tbh, a lot of the story revolves around Mark Rylance sailing his pleasureboat across the channel with his son, or up in the air with Tom Hardy in his Spitfire.

But it's a great story and I'm glad it's been told, it will appeal to your British sentiments as it ends with a familiar piece of classical music by a British composer.

Thanks for that, DDW. Glad you enjoyed it.

Very interested in seeing this as it does look very good.

Dunkirk was actually better than I expected it to be. Must be a generation thing.

Watched Dunkirk tonight, wasn't really my cup of tea but i can appreciate what the film was about and how well it was all done. It's an excellent film but with it being so slow paced i think it needed something else to grab you, it's never good when a film is under 2 hours but feels like it's been on a lot longer.

After watching Spiderman and War for the planet of the apes last week which are very different i would watch those both again but not sure i would Dunkirk.

Agree with all that Johnny. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Seconded. Longest 2h30m of my life. Groan.

You guys should get out more, BvS might have been crap but it's not the worst film around. Not by a country mile even.

Give "American Pie: the naked mile" a shout. Offensive, puerile, pointless fucking garbage from start to end.

No actually, don't give it a try, it's truly awful.

I've seen that too. I'd still rather watch it over Batman v Superman! Maybe...
