The Film Thread

Mechanic-Resurrection. Jason Statham in his usual role as action man. Although must say he looks like he's got in even better shape for this one. Best part of the film, the swimming pool in the sky scene, loved how he did that.

Hell Or High Water with Chris Pine. Disappointing.

Watched a horror/comedy last night called "Dead Snow 2; Red or Dead"....My word. it was glorious! Better than Sharknado!

Dr Strange

Pretty damn good. Strange is easily my favourite character from the Marvel universe as an avid comic reader and collector so I thought it would be tough to impress me, but they did a decent job (allowing for some pretty awful plot holes). It looked good, and Cumberbatch gets the character pretty much spot on.

Hateful 8

Another good Tarantino movie. Not among his best, but I'd still rather watch a film of his than almost any other director. The racist and misogynistic language does get a bit wearing after a while though, even if it is authentically of the period.

holiday plane films.

the infiltrator - with the breaking bad geezer. decent but lacking an edge. seemed a bit too straightforward in the end.

I am not a serial killer - liked this. lo- fi with a 'stranger things' element. nowhere near as good as that though so don't get your hopes up.

Morgan - about a genetically engineered human being risk assessed because of an incident. Good film if a little obvious what was gonna happen. like ex machina

just watched Star Trek beyond. usual all action and trying hard to find something for all the characters to do. fun though.

watched a Japanese film too but can't remember the name of it and one called Kill Command which was a bit crap but passed the time.

Star Trek beyond was almost unwatchable in the cinema as the frame rate and level of action was actually vomit inducing. Hopefully on the small screen it might be bearable.

It was fine when i watched it at home.

one I missed. Green Room about a punk band on tour, then run into a problem at a gig which turns into a nightmare. Good film, bit gruesome.

then last leg, Blackway - about a small town bully being taken on. simple but gritty & realistic.

then, Don't breathe - great film, difficult to watch in places. a burglary of a blind man goes wrong. a couple WTF moments. Definitely worth a look.

Got up early this morning so watched Tremors, absolute classic :)

Watched Home Alone with the kids yesterday. Classic stuff (they'd never seen it before).

Then I watched Bad Santa which was very amusing. But not with the kids.

Watched Doctor Strange and thought it was OK, clearly the best 4 actors Marvel have employed in a film but Cumberbatch was effectively Sherlock without his dark sense of humour and the villain was crap. The premise is good and the effects are stunning, should see him next in Thor I would've thought.

Then I watched Concussion which was very good. I have a personal interest in this film and whilst I wish it would have been more biting on the NFL I understand why it wasn't. The film did a good job painting the doctor as a person which was a good thing but the players, other doctors and Rodger Goodell were far too simplistic in their depiction.

I suggest anybody who is interested in the Concussion issue, particularly those who play or have an interest in Rugby to watch this but also check out the Dateline and PBS documentaries which explain Concussion and really do expose the levels to which the NFL stooped to deny this.

Rugby is a ticking time bomb and it is only a matter of months before this too is exposed as the George North mess is unravelled.

Thing that annoyed me was the villain was Caecilius. Latin name. In fact the same name as the head of the family in standard UK Latin text books. Caecilius est pater, matella est mater...those were the days.

But there is no soft C in Latin. He is KaiKeyleeus. Not KaiSeeleeus like in the film. Just WRONG.

Silly sunts.

Have they watched Uncle Buck yet Langers? I bloody loved that as a kid and still do. John Candy is just fantastic in everything.
