The FIFA Debacle

Apart from the irrational I'll agree there.

However, I very much doubt he knows what he's talking about, so will not help the debate. Perhaps let the football administrators, journalists, police and other law enforcement agencies comment might be a better idea?

It'd be a sad world if all we did is listen to people who 'supposedly' knew what they were on about. This place would be empty for a start. The Prince is entitled to his own opinion, although I hazard a guess that speech writers gave him that. I think his speech sentiments are correct, this should be FIFA's Salt Lake City moment. As President of the FA his speech should carry weight rather than a Martin Samuels column in whatever rag he's writing for.

Sadly TT I think you're right, we all have to accept that until the corrupt officials in all countries and positions of power are endicted then FIFA will just power on through until it implodes.

The danger is, as by all accounts neither him or his father are blessed with intelligence, they will Parrot what others tell them - who controls what they tell them..? They are not regulated and have no oversight, but millions of people actually listen to them, which I find very bizarre.

I get it, you don't like them. However as President of the FA his speech does carry weight whether you agree with it or not.

Also, since when has intelligence stopped people listening to them? Platini, Beckham, Nash and Prescott don't suffer from it.

I am convinced that unless Blatter himself is implicated in bribery and corruption, then he and FIFA will just carry on regardless. He has been untouchable for years now, and I do not see that changing anytime soon.

But they didn't get to their positions by virtue of being born to a monarch. I would argue that all of those people you quote have actually experienced life in areas they comment on so do have a valid point, even if you might think it's BS.

Anyway, that's OT - unless Blatter is arrested he's not going anywhere.

France voted for him? After all Platini's comments over the past week? Bizarre.

I'd totally welcome our FA boycotting the World Cup but that's simply not realistic without other UEFA members following suit.

As a matter of principle I'd still welcome it even if it was just us. I've no desire to watch my country participate in a Blatter endorsed World Cup with all the corruption, not to mention unsuitability of the next 2 hosts.

I just hope this investigation pushes him out of the door because as you all rightly point out, looks like that's the only way he'll go.

The danger in going it alone is that Blatter will paint it as an English / American plot - as he seems to already be doing according to the times this morning.

The UK and the U.S. are already thought of as arrogant and aloof, if we push it alone he will win.

France sold their soul to Blatter for this election in exchange for France hosting the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup finals, and also to stage the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.

So how does anyone know which way individual associations voted? I thought it was a secret ballot, or am I being naive.

Secret ballot, but if Africa voted as a block you could see how the scales get tipped, 54 votes probably went to Blatter. Platini spent much of last week trying to turn the Asian vote, he couldn't make it happen.

In my opinion Blatter would be delighted if England withdrew from the 2018 World Cup. He could then take full revenge on England.

The French delegate stated beforehand that he would be voting for Blatter as
A) he was the incumbent president and
B) that he should be treated as innocent until proven guilty.

British banks have started investigating whether they were used corruptly by FIFA officials.

If it made them money, they were all involved. if they worked for FIFA at the time.....oooops sorry chaps, but yer fucked!, or rather, yer blatt fucked? ha ha ha

Man shouldn't this guy just be dumped because this whole scenario is boring the ass off most of the world!! I now don't bother opening threads on the newspapers that feature his name!

South Africa have admitted making a 10 million dollar payment to FIFA but deny that it was a bribe to secure the 2010 World Cup.
