The F1 Thread

Yeah don't get that, it was obvious live.

What's that? A Red Bull exceeding track limits but not getting binned out of quali? He'll now qualify 5th with Lewis in the wall, so benefits even if he gets 5 places.
Perez Q3 times deleted and lap in Q2. Starts 13th in the sprint race.

Just the five hours to sort it.
Apparently it wasn't picked up as he left the track before the zone. Stewards decided they were very very busy at the time and couldn't look at it until after the session.

Not sure Russel could have done much to stop the collision but not sure why he moved so much to the inside allowing Perez the opportunity to go round him in the first place.

He definitely drifted back towards Perez slightly on the apex.

Yeah for sure. But the incident never happens if he just follows the Ferrari, which means there’s no where for Perez to go. Instead moves inside, brakes really early and just leaves the door wide open for Perez

Fucking Ferrari engine units. Sainz didn’t deserve that and was driving a great race.

On the face of it, a shit call on Sainz but if they really thought his tyres would go before the end then he wouldn't have got a big enough gap to hold off those behind with the 5 second penalty (of course a penalty caused by their great work). So better to ensure a top 5 spot rather than gamble on it after Charles messed up.

Wasn’t going to lose like 30 seconds to Alonso in 10 laps though? Seemed a risk worth taking given they werent going to finish any lower unless the tyre actually exploded. Still had plenty of performance in it went they took it off.

Meant more in getting a top 5 spot rather than tumbling down order completely

Might have got a podium if he stayed out or if the tyres dropped off just gone back behind George/Perez and risking a blow out and race over.

Charles doesn't make his mistake, he doesn't pit as early as he did so race strat out the window.

I can see why they made the call and not wanting both drivers out of the race. They are now looking over their shoulders in the constructors title at Merc.
They do sound like the Dean Saunders of the F1 world over the radio though...Plan A..no B..shit C..back to A....aaarrggghhh now D...stay out..come in

Sainz gets P5 plus fastest lap so bonus point comes from the pit stop.

All irrelevant in the grand scheme of things for a competitive championship with RB when their main competitor is genuinely telling a driver to box mid-overtake

He would have got both Perez and Russell had he stayed out. They binned third for a point plus fifth

The call was played during an overtake but wouldn't have been made at that point. We don't get them live

He already had them.

For me they looked at his tyres and took the option of playing it safe rather than risk a double DNF. Even if they do give the impression of doing this whenever a decision is required

Might have even caught Lewis on the mediums or might have seen the grip go and head back to 5th. Biggest mistake though today in a Ferrari was the lead driver smashing his car up when cruising along

Vettel announces his retirement at the end of the season. Great driver and surprisingly funny guy.
