The F1 Thread

Absolutely. Dirty air is a big issue. I would love to see the science but it would probably melt my brain.

Doesn’t look small to me it’s pretty deep and those diffusers look substantial

That model is neutral raked. Be interesting to see the difference between 2022 Merc and Red Bull

The middle of that rear wing dips a fair bit. As long as they can channel air round to that section they'll get some extra downforce for the rear.

Just worked out the small rear wing area. If you are sorting dirty air running it has to be smaller or you massively over power DRS. We want overtaking but we don’t want it to be facile.

I was just going to say DRS will be less of an effect now if there's less turbulent air. I reckon that most of those sections might seem underpowered next year.

We should get closer racing through high speed corners though, so you may be able to follow closer onto the straights.

So this weekend at Silverstone is the first of the new format.

Sprint Qualifying will be a race run over 100km and lasting around 25-30 minutes. It is designed to provide a short and fast-paced racing spectacle – similar to a Twenty20 cricket match – with drivers racing flat-out from start to finish without the need to pit.

Points will be awarded to the top three finishers, three for the winner down to one point for third. There won’t be a podium ceremony, as that honour will remain the privilege of the top three in Sunday’s Grand Prix, however the winner will get a trophy in Parc Ferme, presented in a similar manner to the tyre the pole-sitter currently from F1’s tyre supplier Pirelli after qualifying now.

The finishing order of the race will define the grid for Sunday’s showpiece event – the Grand Prix, where the traditional format will remain unchanged.
A quick reminder that qualifying is in about an hour and a half!

Almost forgot. Feels weird on a Friday evening.

I can't see the sprint race tomorrow being anything but a procession. Who's going to risk a collision and going to the back of the grid just for a single place?

With the fastest at the front and the slowest at the back, there'll be just as little racing as there usually is in the main races.

Russell is just way better than a Williams. Bottas should be rightfully concerned.

Another great Russell lap and the crowd cheered him all the way round!

That’s awesome.
