The F1 Thread

Another bore fest. This year seems notably worse for entertainment so far. Presumably because of the 3 engines rule

I think it's been decent, certainly been some bold overtaking on display since the safety car with the two Red Bulls surging through the field, their pace has been ridiculous since then!

Shame Max lacked the control of his team mate though otherwise they'd have looked set for a 1-2. Think he was a bit unfortunate with the one on Hamilton, going round the outside but Hamilton drifted across and the car just got unsettled as he avoided Hamilton so had to go evasive and hit the grass, the one on Vettel was all on him though, didn't look to me like he was planning that move but Vettel went a bit wide and he just tried to hit the gap, Vettel tightened up and Max had committed to rashly to something last minute to do anything to avoid it.

Gasly has to be the pick of the bad decisions today, just threw it up the inside right into his team mate when a pass was never on the cards.

Seems I posted to soon! Decent race in the end

Yeah good race but until they can sort out the aero to allow closer racing there will always be a lot of races like the first half of this one. Atm you need much fresher tyres on most tracks to get enough of a run on someone to overtake.

Mercedes messed up for me, they could have brought Hamilton in when the red bulls did as he was in between them I think? The fresh tyres were always going to make the difference and if it wasn’t for max Verstappen being an impatient child he would have led home a 1-2.

That's the biggest issue for me is how hard it is to overtake when you're within a second due to the turbulence. I know drs and the ers go someway to alleviating this but enforcing aero rules which allow better performance in the slip stream would help with overtaking

I was surprised by how little resistance Hamilton offered to being passed, particularly by the Red Bulls, other than a spell around the time Vettel pitted and surrendered the lead I'm not sure either Mercedes ever really closed a gap on anyone today.

Still not sure how Riccardo got up the inside of Bottas where he did, that one looked destined to result in contact.

Hamiltons body language has been odd this season. Not sure he fully wants to be racing this season.

Strong rumours he wants a Ferrari drive next season and if that doesn't happen he will retire.

I suppose he’s not got much more he can achieve has he? Plus he has lots of interests outside of racing so it wouldn’t surprise me. I’d like to see him in a Ferrari and I’d love to see Danny Ric in either a Merc or Ferrari too.

Danny Ric wants a Merc drive and has all but said that. He will be there next season and will replace Bottas.

Sounds like Danny is taking Kimi's seat for next year already. The big feeling is Hamilton will retire before the regulations change in 2021, so two seasons left after this one.

Rumours in the paddock are more around Kimi I thought! Bottas should be replaced but that's a different story

To be fair to Hamilton today, Ricciardo came from a mile back and Verstappen had a 10 second penalty so no point fighting that one too much

Absolutely bizarre strategy from Ferrari in the first instance and then equally as puzzling the moment Mercedes didn't bring Lewis in along with the Red Bulls.

Lewis can always be a surly character, he goes through these sort of spells every so often. He seems to like making things more difficult for himself than needed before sorting himself and going on ridiculous runs.

Max really needs to be sat down and given a talking to about his overtaking. He doesn't seem to be able to get involved with a close overtake without causing an incident.

I agree but at least this time he’s admitted being wrong and said he needs to reassess how he goes about stuff. It’s his 4th season now so he shouldn’t be doing this anymore

I don't think it's that big of an issue yet, he needs to be more patient and pick his moments better rather than see every small gap as a chance to pass but he's not especially dangerous in my eyes so I don't see any need to step in.

Max Verstappen is a talent but you cant drive like you do with your electrical car track with your kids. Idiot.
