The F1 Thread

There is no doubt that the Ferrari's should be challenging this season, but mistakes and/or bad luck is not helping their cause. Rosberg has simply just had to stay out of trouble to win the races so far. I agree that at some point he may well endure difficulties, but by then he might be a country mile ahead of the rest.

Unbelievable amount of luck for Rosberg this season so far but I suppose all it takes is for his engine to blow up and Hamilton to win next time and it's all pretty even again

Still early days and Rosberg has been fortunate that any challenge to his wins have been stopped by a variety of reasons.

I still think Hamilton will win it personally.

Rosberg quickest in P1
Hamilton quickest in P2

Looks like the Russian GP is going to be gentle on the tyres again. Drivers have put a shit load of laps in on the Soft Tyres and not seen times falter at all.

Issue for Vettel (he was 2nd in P2 ahead of Nico) in P2 as he lost all power and now the car is having a bit of a rebuild.

Nice little bit of info from the last race, which shows the racing gods are loving Nico. In P3 a part of his engine blew out, now normally that would lead to a major problem and a possible engine replacement, however this part blew out and came straight through the car body and did no other damage.

Russia is indeed very soft on tyres. They're likely only going to use the Supersoft and Soft in the race. Softs are projected to last 40 laps! So those outside the top 10 could easily one-stop on two sets of those.

Red Bull and Haas have gone very aggressive with the amount of Supersoft sets. All but one team gone for just one set of Mediums:

Vettel having a new gear box so gets a 5 place grid penalty.

Hamilton also having a new gearbox but as he had a replacement last time he is allowed a new one for this race so no grid penalty.

Hamiltons car gone again. Will start in 10th as he can't take part in Q3. Rosberg handed the win again.

Piss poor engineering from Mercedes.

Guess this is Rosberg's year, shame really as he's absolutely not worthy of being a champion in a field containing vettel, alonso and hamilton.

Hamilton has said he expects to get a five place penalty. So he could be very near the back of the field again.

The cynic in me would that Mercedes have decided it's going to Rosberg's turn this year

I was hoping this would be a year of seeing Hamilton and vettel battling it out at front. Instead we have mr average likely to win the title.

Looks like 15th place at best for Lewis. Will no doubt need a new power unit so 5 place penalty for that.

Rosberg is very good. Probably not quite top class material but then they don't always win the titles. He's on a par with Jenson at his peak for me.

Possibly, but I didn't think jenson was that great either ;)

To me Rosberg would not be in F1 without his dad, same goes for Palmer too. It's an odd trend which takes F1 even further from the fans.

Of course he would be. He hacked up in GP2 when it was very strong and was very good in his first few seasons at Williams in a poor car. He's not there as a pay driver like some are nowadays.

To say that Mercedes are deliberately sabotaging Lewis is also complete guff. They have a constructors title to win - they're nerve ever going to throw that away for the sake of appeasing a driver.

Nico isn't as good as say, Montoya who never won a title, but he's better than Villeneuve who did in a car equally as dominant as the current Mercedes (he nearly messed it up as well).
