The F1 Thread

They probably should have the safety car out in that situation though, especially with the rain coming down as it was. The whole incident was completely covered up after it happened, the commentators seemed unaware that when the medical car went out it was for Bianchi I don' even think they knew he went off.

It was odd. As the TV cameras were not on the corner when it happened, the FIA were red hot to stop any footage going out. There was a moment after the safety car came out that the live feed went to the Marussia garage where all the engineers were sat looking shocked, at that moment it made no sense whatsoever but the Sky comms didn't comment on it, then a live shot of Suttil's car was and you could just see a small part Bianchi's car.

Apparently he's had to have a other operation to relieve bleeding on the brain and has been put on a respirator. Not sounding good.

Wouldn't surprise me if they have to induce a coma like Schumacher to protect his brain.

Holy christ, there's footage of his crash out there now.

He hits that tractor so fast and hard. Much worse than I thought it was gonna be. The poor, poor bloke. What's extra worrying is the marshall tower was waving a green flag at that exact moment too as the tractor was lifting Sutil's car. That's not good at all.

Oh my god. That's worse than I ever could have imagined. Horrific.

Christ just seen it it's a miracle he wasn't decapitated. dreadful. Explains why the rollbar was ripped off.

Absolutely horrific. How he survived that is a miracle. Goodness knows the severity of the injuries he suffered.

Wish I hadn't watched that, really hope he's ok, but it looked awful.

How the fuck is he even alive. Brutal crash. Wasn't going to watch it but frigging Facebook decided I wanted to see it and played a small clip someone had posted on there

Marussia release statement regarding Bianchi and its no good at all really. Suffering from diffuse axonal injury and is regarded as "critical but stable".

I spoke with Squeeze about this. That type of injury is exceptionally serious. We shouldn't expect good news and probably should be prepared for the worst.

SSN were saying a high % never wake up from this sort of injury and those that do are hugely disabled for the rest of their life.

From what I gather, if and when he regains consciousness, he could have severe brain injuries. Though I do not suppose the medical team will know until he does come round. It is so very sad.

He is going to have life-changing injuries as a best-case scenario. Desperate.

It's a miracle he's still with us at this point, so hopefully he'll be part of another.

In better news, Jean Todt has said that Schumi should be able to live a 'relatively normal life' in the not too distant future.

This injury is basically that the brain has received such a severe shake that the connections to a lot of the nerve endings have been shaken apart. Really not good. Fingers crossed as always.

Indeed, it's the heaviest concussion known to medical science. It's testament to modern helmet technology that he's here at all. But everything has it's limits. An accident in every sense of the word and I hope he has some semblance of a decent life if he recovers.

Isn't it the same type of injury that Richard Hammond had in his huge Top Gear crash a few years ago? If so, it shows it is possible to have a pretty decent life afterwards.

So he has a life of working with Jeremy Clarkson ahead of him. The news just gets worse for Bianchi.
