The F1 Thread

You'd have huge gaps between the field after about five laps on the Nordschleife too, it'd make for pretty terrible viewing.

Fantastic start from the Red Bulls.

Massa continues his horror show of a campaign. He'll be getting binned mid-season if he's not careful.

I hope that's a failure! Started the season well but its getting ridiculous now.

Holy shit that looked a nasty hit for the cameraman. I imagine that would really hurt.

On the flipside though, I want to see that camera feed!

Lotus look really strong today. Looks like Mercedes are back to having tyre issues, I know Lewis is never slow to complain about anything but these prime tyres don't seem to be lasting at all.

Never seen anything like that! Interesting race now!

Exploding tyres one week, runaway driverless cars the next. Bernie and his gimmicks.

Another great drive from Vettel. Alonso and ferrari seemed to get their strategy wrong.

FOM Cameraman has broken shoulder and cracked ribs. Otherwise OK. I’ve worked with the amazing FOM boys for 4 years. Cracking lads.

And from Autosport:

An FIA spokesman has confirmed that Allen suffered two broken ribs, a broken collarbone, concussion and bruises.

Good to hear. Looked like it could have easily been worse, especially if it had hit his head. I expect something will be done about it. Jean Todt is a big stickler for safety.

Also, Red Bull and Force India have had nonsense fines for the unsafe releases. Webber was E30,000 and Di-Resta E5000.

Both should have had 20s added to their times after the race, especially Di Resta as that was a nailed on drive through IMO. That way it doesn't ruin the actual race for the drivers but punishes them and the teams in terms of any points gained. Webber would have dropped out of the points to 11th and Di Resta would have dropped down to 16th. Ricciardo would have got the final points position.

Fines mean nothing to the teams, given the massive budgets they have. I agree that a certain amount of seconds should be added to their times, though it could be difficult to administer.

Hmmm, not really sure the strategy was wrong. I don't think they were in the league of the Lotus or Red Bull today. His proximity to them was pretty much down to the safety car.

Demoralising result championship wise, but another superb drive by Seb. Can't fault that.

Lotus talking to Di Resta and Hulkenberg.

Obviously resigned to losing Kimi then.

Fangio's Merc sold for £17.5m.
