The Definitive TWF World XI thread (1986-present) - CENTRE FORWARD VOTING OPEN

To be fair, Neymar was making a decent fist of doing the same last time round until he got nobbled. I really had no time for him as a player at that time but I think he's come on leaps and bounds since moving to Barca.

Maradona's performance at 86 was leagues ahead of Neymar 2014. Different level entirely.

Too little love for Nedved thus far.

Maradona is a weird one, he's obviously in the highest echelon of footballers all time but I think his personality and political significance in Italy make people remember him more fondly than they would otherwise.

I didn't see much of his games in Italy but the 86 world cup was off the charts. Years later I remember being excited to see Zidane as people were building him up to be the best in the world. I remember being disappointed when I eventually saw him not because he wasn't great but just because he wasn't Maradona. I'd essentially been spoiled when I watched Maradona in 86.

Yep Maradona was magnificent in Mexico 86, it was his tournament and the 2nd goal against England was one of if not the greatest goal of all time. Spain 82 pricked my interest as Italy won and Paolo Rossi became my first hero but Mexico 86 was the first WC I watched properly.

Also my family are Napoli fans and I class them as my Italian team. Though I never made a Napoli game during the Diego years I remember the excitement and passion in the city due to what he did for that team. He is still revered today, almost 30 years later.

PS sorry for late title amendment - I wasn't online last night. Blame Jinky - the lazy git managed to submit his names into the thread hours ago but didn't edit the title. Shocking moderating IMO.

I accept that apportioning of blame.

Discard his votes for the remainder of the thread. Got to be cruel to be kind.

Messi
Ronaldo
Ronaldinho
Figo
Bale
Giggs

*disparages people who don't put Messi #1*

*lists Bale, Neymar, and Giggs*

:stirthepot:

All top class Alan. An uninjured Bale is as good as anyone bar the top 2 imo and Ronaldinho for that 2/3 year spell at Barca, pity Bale he can't stay fit. Neymar is outstanding, no idea how you can question that and you probably never saw Giggs in full flow for Utd he could have got in to any team in the world and if a young Giggs was reincarnated now he still would.

Love that Alan has a pop after putting Litmanen in his CM choices

Cristiano Ronaldo
Lionel Messi
Robben
Thierry Henry
David Beckham
Ronadinho

I'm just amazed Alan's top picks didn't include Peter Rufai, Taribo West, John Mensah, Cyrille Makanaky, Magdi Abdelghani and Khalilou Fadiga ;)

Don't think I wasn't close to adding Abedi Ayew!
