You took your time to rock up
Looking back, I've got Lee Naylor, Christophe Berra, Mark Kennedy, Mark Burke and Dougie Freedman on my various shortlists. The levels of seethe that lot would cause among our fans would be spectacular.
I did indeed, pretty much read the entire thread last night and this morning.
I'd have had all of those other than Freedman and Burke on my respective lists, though i rated both.
Burke had so much technical ability, i remember him being penned in a corner away at Barnsley (i think), he simply flicked the ball up, did two kick ups and then looped the ball up and over the back of his head and ran around the two defenders collected the ball and ran and off with the ball. It was one of the best things i'd ever seen at that age.
However, he didn't really fulfill his obvious potential in a Wolves shirt, and if he had a bit more pace and bite i'm sure he'd have been a superb player. Made sense that he ended up in Holland really, that league would have suited him. The English division 2 was a bit too "blood and thunder" for such a calm and collected player.
"In England if the manager said it, you just did it. When I went to Fortuna .. I really started to understand the shape of the field, horizontally and vertically. In England the only time I had training sessions like that was when I went on coaching courses."
As for Freedman, what a criminal decision it was to let him go, again technically brilliant, and scored some really, really good goals! The Norwich (?) hat trick and goal against Wimbledon were superb, among others.
