The Definitive TWF Wolves XI Thread (1970 - present)

Jota is one player who I think actually fits the "left forward" role. More of a shooter, less of a playmaker, not quite a striker, not a winger

I would certainly add Neves as my second midfielder to accompany Mike Bailey in my choices. As the season goes on I might go for Diogo Jota but at the moment its still Dave Wagstaffe and how on earth we picked Andy Thompson over Derek Parkin is totally incomprehesible. As older guys and therefore wiser :headbang: Our votes should have counted double :sneaky:

Neves & Jota in that team might have pushed them through the barrier

Though agree that picking anyone before Parkin is sacriligeous

And the whippersnappers on here didn't have Frank Munro in their team. It is a good job the death penalty has been abolished...!

Way too early to put anyone into a best of side at the moment and centre midfielders and keeper apart the current formation makes it difficult anyway in a 442. Jota doesn't beat Sako (even though it should have been Jarvis or Waggy if you are 50+) as a left winger or Keane as the partner to Bully. The wing backs don't particularly defend and the back 3 have a different role to play to the conventional back 4, Coady for instance would be awful as a traditional centre half.

Murray

Foley Richards Lescott Thompson

Costa Rae Cameron Sako

Bull Keane

Manager: McCarthy

VERSUS

Ruddy

Miranda Coady Boly

Doherty Saiss Neves Douglas

Cavaleiro Bonatini Jota

Manager: Nuno Espirito Santo

Who would win?

Cav against Thommo would be unfair.

It'd be a big job for the current defence to keep out that front two.

Imagine a prime Bully in the current side. Frightening.

I think it'd be an excellent game to watch. I think our current team would dominate the middle and the inside forwards would have Foley & Thompson on toast but I'd back Lescott/Richards to keep Bonatini relatively quiet and then there's that front 4 of Costa/Bull/Keane/Sako...

Yeah that would be a great match I think, pretty close between 2 very different styles

I was actually wondering yesterday which of my fav 70's team could fit into Nunos style......not many I think, Munro and Bailey definitly, possibly Parkin at lwb and maybe Waggy could be converted into a wide forward rather than a traditional winger........and thats it, even Richards and Doog who would usually feature in my all time team wouldn't fit into the current style I don't think

I think Richards would be fine in this set up. Could hold the ball up and bring other players into the game, scored goals from outside the area as well as score inside the box

Think you could also Kenny Hibbitt to fit into that midfield as well

Good point I'd forgotten Hibbit (old age) but does Nuno prefer 2 holding midfielders and 2 wide forwards.......suppose Kenny could fit into that

Kenny was probably a more attacking midfielder than either Neves or Saiss, though suspect that he was more than capable of adjusting if asked
