Webster was bowling seam up

We don't really have a frontline spinner now Briggs has gone. Tazeem Ali is 19 and played 5 FC games, Lintott hasn't played a red ball game for nearly 2 years (and has played 3 ever), Mousley has gone unused here so his bowling seems to be going backwards, Bethell probably won't play more than a couple of Championship games all season and doesn't bowl that much either

Jimmy taken 4/5 wickets for Lancs at Northants

Ton for Jamie Smith (batting at 3)

Have treated myself to a Notts membership this season.

Looking forward to the first game at Trent Bridge this Friday vs Glamorgan.

J. Rew looked very good for Somerset over the weekend.

A thoroughly shit defeat for Warwickshire and of course, Beau Webster looks like a dreadful overseas signing (we have to keep up our record I suppose. Thing is he looked shit last season too and we've brought him back).

In other news, Monty Panesar has signed for Pelsall.

The balance is all wrong in general, no spinner and a team of medium/ medium fast all rounders from 5 down. They've been well ahead in both games, but can't put teams away. Not an obvious spinning option out there either, you aren't playing Lintott in April

There's Tazeem Ali but he's 19.

Negligent squad management, it's nonsense. You've watched what Jeetan Patel did for a decade for Christ's sake, we need a spinner.

Still early days, but not really sure I'm a fan of this law change allowing the substitutes within the game.

Both sides in the game at Trent Bridge used it, with Notts in particular benefiting by bringing on James in the fourth innings, who took three wickets in 19 balls as a replacement for Fergus O Neill to help seal the game for Notts.

Somerset brought on two.

The rule is fine but if teams take the piss then it isn't, so really it's up to them to play ball.

It's not worked when it's been tried before. Like for like is too woolly. Too often a number 11 bowler gets replaced by another bowler who just happens to bat middle order or vice versa.

I get the principle. There was an Ashes Test in I think 2019 where Jimmy did his hamstring at about 11.30 on day one. So he's bowled 4 overs and there's clearly no way he's coming back. So we're a bowler down, and Australia just waited it out until the second innings when everyone was now obviously knackered after bowling far too many overs, and smashed us everywhere. Ruined as a contest because of an injury.

But if they can't be trusted, well they can't have it. There have been a lot of subs and it's only week 2.

To be fair both Somerset players were injured. So they weren't taking the piss completely. But I would say that.

Not that Smeed made a huge impact after sprinting up from Abergavenny.
