What’s the stadium in Melbourne that has a roof on? Pretty sure that’s hosted T20 beforehand
Yes it has but as they use drop in wickets then there's no chance of it being switched even if it was available.

They won't move it, looking very much like it will be shared. Shit way for it to end up.

Only in cricket would this scenario present itself. Might have been worth a week ago coming up with a contingency plan.

Given what happened in the 50 over WC, I'd have thought they'd have made it as certain as possible to be decided on the pitch.

Such as what though, you can't indefinitely delay it until the weather is ok, the other Melbourne stadium isn't owned by Cricket Australia, isn't available and wouldn't be suitable any time soon, Australia is too big to move it to another city.

You put it in place prior to the tournament and make all parties aware, if the forecast is dreadful in the original host then it’ll be moved to the back up destination. Played either behind closed doors or limited capacity.

The nearest city to Melbourne with a suitable stadium is 750km away, that's a complete non-starter on every conceivable level. It's not like playing in Nottingham because it's forecast to rain in Manchester.

It really isn’t an outrageous suggestion especially if it’s put in place beforehand.

Of course it is, the logistics just aren't workable let alone the financial considerations. Nor are weather forecasts anything like reliable enough.

I beg to differ but weren’t going to agree

Most likely other option would be the gabba which is a) flipping miles away and b) smaller. Can't see the fans being happy with that..

The BBC forecast shows a five hour window of dry weather from the local start time of 7pm. Thundery showers prior to that could have already scuppered any chances of play.

Don't see why it can't be postponed until the weather is better, unlikely to be more than a few days late and weather forecasts are generally excellent nowadays.
There would probably be quite a few fans that could make it, the alternative is no fans get to see the world cup final.

In contrast to the rain in Australia in November, Lords at 17 degrees and sunny on Sunday shows just how fecked up our global weather is.

Rain forecasted in Melbourne until next Friday.

We're due to play an ODI against Australia in Adelaide on Thursday.

An extra 2 hours allowed to play the game Monday.

The weather has been questionable all through the tournament, a little bit of forward planning could have made playing Saturday possible surely?

No way you could predict it that far out. And you simply can't go changing dates and venues at extremely short notice. Sometimes it rains and you can't play, that's life.

Or we could host everything ever in the UAE so you get a 0% chance of rain, but the cricket will be shit and no one wants to go.

Tbf I think, with La Niña, you could have predicted shit weather in Melbourne now.

You don't have to predict it miles ahead, just put in potential reserve days at the start.
