The Cricket Thread

And now India are trying to mess it up against Zimbabwe. Its almost like nobody wants to play England.

That is semantics as I am sure you know but I will change it to

"I really hope we beat them with a non-striker run out of the last wicket, preferably with that shit stain on the world of cricket Virat Kohli being the man on the receiving end."

The India of Gavaskar and Kapil Dev and Bishan Bedi and so on was a team full of gentlemen. Laxman, Dravid, Tendulkar the same. Kohli is the worst sportsman in cricket, and I really want him to get his comeuppance.

The whole current attitude surrounding Indian cricket is very unpleasant. Very much think they own the game therefore can do what they want. Turned mankad into just as part the game as a stumping.

Spot on. It was much better when Australia and us ran things.

It’s better if it’s run by mutual agreement, but that never happens.
The power hierarchy goes:

India

England, Australia

The rest

The BCCI is way too big for their collective boots. Happy to try and fuck up international cricket for the IPL as if they are the only organisation on the planet. I want them to lose every time they play, pretty much. I would probably want Convict CC to win against them.

Probably.

Spot on. When we introduced t20 into the professional game, the stanford series or the hundred we did it for the good of the game. The bcci just care about their coffers.

There was nothing about the Stanford series that was good for the game, it was pure greed and the day the ECB sold its soul.

As for the Hundred, it depends how you define good and who for I guess.

That element of the discussion (it was better under England and Aus) feels a little colonial, although I take and agree with the wider BCCI point.

There was nothing about the invention of T20 in England that had an eye on it being a global force either. For at least the first couple of years it wasn't taken particularly seriously domestically, when Australia played New Zealand in 2004/5 they wore comedy 70s outfits.

There's a sliding doors moment where Pakistan win the inaugural World Cup in 2007 rather than India and it has nowhere near the subsequent impact on the game. Before then, India didn't give a shit about it at all. The IPL was literally launched after they won as a reaction, no planning in it at all.

I'm sorry but I agree with @Paddingtonwolf the bcci only care about their money but we care about the wider game. Nothing wrong with stanford or the hundred. Likewise the hundred hasn't messed around with any international calenders has it?

Well it has, bar a token T20I vs New Zealand on 30 August, there is no international cricket in August 2023 in England.

I mean every point bar the BCCi one in this is wrong so I'll leave you to it

If you want to argue with Paddy then do so, don't drag me into it.

I don't watch IPL or The Hundred, I sometimes have BBL on as it's fine for background while working as they start at 8am UK time but not sure I could tell you who anyone plays for or who won last time. Will not be bothering with the new SA or UAE efforts. My standpoint is they're all domestic tournaments, fine if you want to have them but they shouldn't interfere with anything outside of that.

I find international T20 totally pointless outside of World Cups, which themselves tend to be very good bar the 2021 version where the time of year crossed with the venue chosen made it silly. But I do appreciate you do need to a build a team so the bilateral fixtures have to exist.

ODI World Cups are inked in to 2027 but I'm not sure the format will last much longer than that, national boards don't seem interested any more and nor do the ICC. Which is a shame.

New Zealand getting a pasting at the moment. Pakistan now 1/7 on Betfair. 87-0 66 needed off 10 overs
