The Cricket Thread

People still banging on about bloody Hales.

1) He hasn't played for England for years

2) He is only going to bat in the top three. We have Buttler and Bairstow, Malan and Salt both easily outperformed him in the 16.4. So did Jacks who hasn't been picked either. We have Stokes and Livingstone who could easily bat three, so could Mo

3) He is 34 in January

4) He is a bellend

He isn't going to play again and nor should he.

Bairstow out after getting injured playing golf. Sake.

Rumours are this isn't going to age well

Would be ridiculous if we did go back to him.
Key seems to have boxed himself into a corner. Hales rang him up and asked why he wasn't picked and he said he would be but he wants Bairstow to open with Buttler. Then Key goes on the record about the conversation, next thing Bairstow is injured. So he has the option of picking Hales or looking disingenuous. I think it'll come down to Buttler green or red lighting it.

Duckett is in the Test squad

Given that Stokes calls him "my friend at the time, Alex" in his documentary, I'm not sure it'll happen.

He isn't good enough to justify the hassle especially when we have other good players that we can pick instead. Nor has he got much of a shelflife.

I don't think he's going to be the difference between us winning the World Cup or not and so I seriously wouldn't bother.

Also Hales isn’t even in the Pakistan squad so surely someone from that group gets the nod?

I get where you are coming from, but would circling back round to Jennings and Robson be any worse than we we have? Neither are the solution, but there isn't one, so marginal improvements are all we can hope for.

Hasn’t he got a good record on the sub continent?

Edit: Averages over 40 in India and Sri Lanka

It's a really small sample size though.

112, 0, 1, 54, 46, 146*, 1, 26, 13, 1

It's not like he's reliable. He's had a couple of good innings and one of them was nearly six years ago, and four scores out of nine were 0 or 1.

Aaron Finch is somehow in even worse form than Jason Roy.

What's the story with Sam Northeast? Worcs are playing Glamorgam currently and so he came to my attention again. Regularly scores runs, has captained Kent, spent time at Hants and now seems to be amongst the runs at Glamorgan (abeit in Div 2). Toured with the Lions but I don't ever remember his name cropping up for the first team.

Is he trouble or just not as good as the volume of runs he scores? I don't think the way he left Kent was too savoury

He's one of those that's always been on the fringes but either a gap hasn't opened up at the right time or when there was one, he happened to be in rubbish form.

Don't think he's trouble, just a younger James Hildreth basically.

Thanks. Hamstrung [I guess] by batting at 4/5 where we've been relatively strong. If he opened he'd probably have had a couple of chances and 25 caps instead.

P.S. Another 75 runs for Ed Barnard yesterday. I think Warks will see him as the better of the signings from Worcs next season. Cheaper, available more often and nowadays certainly more consistent. Ali [who I've loved] is now very hit and miss.

If Mo doesn't get picked for the Pakistan Tests (and I don't think he should) then I doubt he'll be playing red ball cricket again.

Yea, his Warwickshire contract is a Birmingham one in reality
