The Cricket Thread

Obviously it's a terrible radio station in general but their live comms tend to be ok. Harmison was on last time I listened (ODIs vs SA last year I think) and he's fine.

Anyway, I think we know what we're in for. Two seamers and four spinners in the India squad.

We're back to having caused an issue of our own making by making Pope vice-captain when he isn't necessarily an automatic pick on merit. Stokes almost certainly won't bowl either. I reckon we'll go:

Crawley
Duckett
Pope
Root
Brook
Stokes
Bairstow
Rehan
Wood
Robinson/Anderson
Leach

Which re-opens the interminable Foakes or Bairstow debate.

Not arriving in India until 3 days prior to the first test. Preparing in the UAE which just isn’t the same thing.

Just the nature of modern tours sadly. The host nation won't give you warm-up games that are worth anything.

Plus obviously there are better golf courses in Abu Dhabi.

Harmison falls into that odd bunch that are surprisingly good on comms when every expectation you have is that they'll be terrible. I think Tuffnel was [although I'm sure there were others before him that don't spring to mind right now] the first that made me think 'I wasn't expecting that'.

Matthew Hayden seems like a really nice guy, but was a total wanker when he played :D

I'd imagine Bangladesh would have happily given us a one off Test if we'd wanted one. Sharma pretty much said in SA that they are going to prepare extreme turners. Foakes has to play.

I'm with you, but now we've created that problem with Pope (plus neither Root nor Brook want to bat at #3), who misses out?

Fans will be in safe hands with multiple award-winning presenters and pundits providing them with all the coverage and content from the series. England legends David ‘Bumble’ Lloyd, Steve Harmison, Darren Gough, Kevin Pietersen, Alex Tudor and Gareth Batty will be on hand alongside star of The Hundred, Phoebe Graham, to deliver quality commentary with statistical analysis provided by CricViz. talkSPORT’s cricket Editor Jon Norman will also be delivering expert analysis, as will cricket commentators Harsha Bhogle, Neil Manthorp, Jarrod Kimber, Andrew McKenna and Chetan Narula.

I know I'll end up listening but I'm not keen on most of the names above. I'll give Bhogle and Narula a pass as I'm not sure if I've heard them yet but the likes of Kimber and Pietersen will have me reaching for the off button.

If Pope HAS to play then Bairstow is the one I'd not pick. It'll be all different by the 3rd Test anyway

I'm sure you will have heard Bhogle, he's an appaling BCCI stooge.

Don't see them dropping Bairstow after that Ashes return, even if it is a bit feast or famine.

Personally I'd bat him at 3 and pick Foakes, but we sort of can't do that now.

Pope averages about 15 in the second innings against everyone, it's a huge issue. Hasn't played for nearly 7 months either.

If this Windies side could bat they could give Australia issues. If not for Travis Head getting a century convict CC would be at best level in the game. Excellent bowling by the Windies. But you can’t bat first and post under 200 and expect to win much.

Shamar Joseph just castled Lyon to get a five for in his first ever test innings. His first delivery got Steve Smith too. He looks the absolute real deal and one to watch out for.

Hazlewood now out and Australia have a 95 run lead. Should be enough unless the pitch absolutely dies.

Kohli not playing the first two Tests either

Quite a decent innings for Josh Brown for Brisbane Heat in the final eliminator of the BBL. 140 off about 51 deliveries. Sixes everywhere.

Shoaib Bashir has still to get his Visa for the Indian tour. I think we can all guess why.
