The Cricket Thread

Rob Key has come out and pretty much said the same thing, he's not at the stage of his career where he is going to travel around India being 15th man

Utter shite from Curran again, 38 off his 2 overs. Lost the knack of taking wickets with shite so you're just left with popgun crap.

We really have turned to shit outside Tests, though we’re generally awful in the Windies every time we go

The India off spinner Sharma's match figures against England's women in their Test
13.3-6-39-9. Already 3 down in the first and 4 in the second before she came on.

They scored 400 on the first day too. Crushing.

Superb stuff from Salt and Brook earlier.

However, Sam Curran, Oct-Dec 2023:

6-2-47-1
7.2-0-47-1
4-0-46-0
9.5-0-98-0
7-0-33-3
4-0-22-0
2.1-0-23-0
2-0-38-1
3-0-34-2

45.2-0-388-8

8 wickets @ 48.50 (Econ 8.56)

Absolute dross.

I don't know whether it's Buttler or Mott selecting line ups, but the tail they keep picking for both 50 and 20 over games is asking to get beaten. The top order is going to fail once every few games at best, especially with our all out style and a 6,7,8 of Moeen, Curran and Woakes isn't going to bail you out very often. It's baffling

Looking back to when we won the 50 over World cup, with the exception of Morgan, the batting line up was firing on all cylinders and it had to be as the same problem with the tail existed then. Its arguable that it was actually worse.

Roy
Bairstow
Root
Morgan
Buttler
Stokes
Woakes
Plunkett
Rashid
Archer
Wood

That's fair, although I'd say that Woakes was a genuine 7 back then, he isn't now and Plunkett offered more than Curran. Last night Livingstone didn't bowl, yet we still used 6. We are a bowler heavy and a batsman light.

Curran is just totally unfit for purpose now he doesn't fluke wickets with total shite and Livingstone isn't an ODI player, neither should be playing and they cause more problems than they solve.

I don't mind Livingstone in T20s batting at 6, but he needs to be offering an option as a 6th bowler.

If I've got a free pick of everyone for T20, with an eye on the World Cup being in the Caribbean, and hoping Stokes can bowl at least a bit by then:

Salt
Buttler
Bairstow
Stokes
Brook
Jacks
Livingstone/Mo/Rehan (I'd be inclined to lean towards Rehan, but probably needs to show a bit more with the bat)
Woakes
Wood
Rashid
Topley

I'm choosing to forget about Jofra for now, it's like hoping Ndah or Murray would come back for Wolves back in the day.

Not getting in a Baz team leaving it like that
