I can live with a transition period we all knew it was coming maybe not so quickly. If you’d have said after the 2015 WC we’d win ODI WC and a T20 title in the next 7 years I’d have been ecstatic.

David Willey has retired from international cricket. It boils my piss when fringe players make an announcement about not playing for their nation anymore when the reality is that he wasn't given a central contract and therefore not really in the selectors plans.
Just accept the privilege that you've had in playing for your country and come to terms with the fact that they've retired you, not the other way around.

I’m amazed at how many caps he’s mustered 70 ODI and 43 T20.
He’s done well to forge a career as I think he’s a very limited bowler at international level.
Domestic cricket he’ll probably get another 5 years on the T20 circuit.

Willey getting 100+ white ball caps in an era where until last month, we've been objectively excellent throughout is a seriously weird outlier. Never liked him, won't miss him.

I actually think Root will carry on playing ODIs, he doesn't play T20 for England and doesn't get many freelance gigs either. He doesn't turn 33 until next month, plenty of miles left. He's younger than Buttler with fewer commitments and a less demanding role.

SA increasingly looking like the only team who might topple India. Surely their opponents have got to stop sending them in first.

So to make it interesting, we need England to beat Australia (stop laughing at the back), Pakistan to beat New Zealand and Afghanistan to beat Netherlands next up.

I think we’ll be sitting out the 2025 champions trophy. Come the 2027 WC I think we’ll have recovered enough not to go through qualifying.
England cricket isn’t in a good place at all though the amount of apathy towards this tournament was evident before a ball was bowled, all England games behind a pay wall serious lack of marketing and inclusion from ECB. This also competing in autumn with the Premier League and RWC it doesn’t stand a chance.

I think simply down to what is clearly a breakdown in all confidence I wouldn’t trust us to beat The Netherlands, the carrot of qualification for a tournament in 18 months either won’t appeal to most the squad either.

Still leaves a core of players to work with and there's plenty (Salt, Crawley, Duckett, Jacks, Hain, Smith, Rehan, Mahmood etc) on the outside ready to come in.
