The bike racing thread

Not much interest on here I know but didn't want to let the significance of the coming weekend pass without mentioning it.
End of an era on Sunday, the Doctor will make his final appearance in Motogp, he'll be missed.
Pity he has been well off the pace last couple of seasons but his legacy remains intact imo.
The last couple of seasons, the championship has seen some terrific racing with many up and coming young riders vying for the top spot and 5 or 6 manufacturers producing race winning bikes but it won't be the same without Vale, last of the real characters of the sport for now.
For over 20 years he's managed to be hyper competitive, a fan favourite and a larger than life character, without coming across as a twat.
Going GT car racing I believe, it will be interesting to see what he can achieve there.
 
If you get chance watch the Switch on Sky F1. The Doctor in Lewis’ 2020 car and Lewis on Valentino’s race bike. It’s bloody ace to see.

Rossi had a go at an F1 Ferrari a few years ago, initially kept spinning off cos he was going too slow...by the end of the day was 2 seconds off the lap times of the the Ferrari test driver
 
I don't mind watching a bit of motogp if I chance across it, the doc is the only one I really know.

I find it much more entertaining than F1 (not a dig at F1 by the way) and love watching them chuck themselves around the track, proper highly skilled lunatics.

Shame that there's no obvious replacement, all sports need superstars
 
Marquez needs to call it quits after today's news. A genuine superstar, but that body is fundamentally broken.
 
Yeah it's a real shame, he was just starting to show signs of decent form. Just too many crashes I'm afraid and they always seem to happen in training or practice, hopefully he comes back from it but it's a worry as it relates to concussion
 
Well this year's TT starts Monday with first qualifying, like many annual events, hasn't been held since covid started so really looking forward to it.
Was tempted by the new streaming service which is a bargain £14.99 and covers all qualifying, every race live, plus some extras.
Decided against it though, don't want to tie myself up in front of the telly for 2 weeks solid and also not sure how the coverage is going to pan out. Will see how it works and maybe go for it next year. ITV4s highlights package has been pretty good in the past so will stick to that for now.
 
Sorry, only just seen this on here, massive Moto GP fan been routing for Aprilia and KTM for the last few years. Glad to see one of them on the up.

Well that's 2 of us with something to chat about on the non football threads.
 
Well I missed out on all tonight's excitement cos I went to the speedway, first I've been for 5 or 6 years, about 40 years since my missus went.
It was a terrific meeting, close racing all through.
Level on points after the last heat meant we had 'super heat' decider which Wolves came out on top to win the meeting.
The oponents Leicester were a bit unlucky as one of their riders crashed out in spectacular style while in second place. Luckily he was ok.
 
Lost track and a bit of interest in motogp over the last few years but a podcast I found recently has sparked it back up.
Today ITV4 had it on live and it was excellent, great racing and loads of drama.Portimao is a great track for motorcycle racing.
Seems a bit odd for me that not long ago if you weren't on a Honda or Yamaha you were almost I a different race, nowadays they are way off the 3 European manufacturers.
Good to see Marc Marquez competitive again after a few years of injuries.
The new superstar is rookie Pedro Acosta, podium today.

I see Liberty Media have bought 86% of Motogp from Dorna.
Will be interesting to see if they can lift its profile as they have done with F1, surely if they can sell the tedious car stuff as successfully as they have, the infinitely more exciting spectacle of motorcycle racing will explode😁

Obviously this my bike racing centric view.
 
Gunna park my current Wolves grumpiness for the next week while I enjoy the TT. Hoping for some good weather and everyone comes home safe.

I'm not there, just following online and TV.
We'd love to get back there, its a real spectacle.
Maybe within the next couple of years when my missus is retired.
It's been 45 years since we went🤨.
We did get to go for Mike Hailwoods comeback though.
The big news this year is will Michael.Dunlop break uncle Joeys record after equaling it on Saturday (he will weather permiting).
 
Ahh, gotcha. Never been myself but it’s always been an itch that needs scratching. Don't have a bike now and it’s not the wife’s thing so it’s a ship that might’ve sailed. Still hankering after a ‘classic’ so maybe one day…

That visor issue was a bitch for Dunlop on Sunday, he must’ve been gutted. Unreal record that family have between them.
