The best cover versions thread

Just listening to my weekly recommendations on Spotify and a sublime cover of Leonard Cohen's Tower of Song came on. The voice sounded familiar but I couldn't place who it was so I checked and it was Tom Jones!

One of the best covers I've heard in ages - look it up, it's awesome.

Cum On Feel The Noise - Oasis
Street Fighting Man - Oasis
One Way Road - Paul Weller
Salt Of The Earth - Proud Mary
Sons Of The Stage - Beady Eye
Stand By Me - John Lennon
I'm Outta Time - Lilly Allen
Wah Wah - Ocean Colour Scene

Nothing Compares 2 U - Sinead O'Connor
All along the Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix

I agree in part, but it is those artists that have made the songs famous rather than the songs being famous in the first place.

People are Strange by Echo and the Bunnymen is one of my favourites along with Hurt by Johnny Cash

I've gone down a Flaming Lips rabbit hole, this will end (as always) in a few hours with me listening to 20 different versions of Yoshimi.

If we are talking Sinead O'Connor, her cover of Nirvana's All Apologies is superb.
The posthumous release of Chris Cornell's cover of Nothing Compares 2 U is worth a listen.

And also sadly recently departed - Denise Johnston's cover of True Faith is great.

Hazy Shade of Winter by The Bangles is a tremendous cover version by a completely unexpected band who did nothing before or after to make me like them. But this is one of my favourite cover versions of all time.

Also A New England by Kirsty McColl. Sublime.

Good call on both them ....although didn't Billy Bragg write it for her

Billy Bragg had a version out first then he added a second verse for her to sing (and he now includes it himself when he plays it live).
