love this pic ! down and out !!!!!!!!!!!!

Who farted?

Daley Thompson- one of the greatest sportsmen this country has ever produced. What a legend. I heard him interviewed a while ago describing what it was like in an Olympic year. He said he trained twice on Christmas Day because "I knew Jurgen Hingsen would be training once". Sums him up.

Very proud of my young athletes today. They put in some great performances in their first competition of the season. The girl I posted about earlier in this thread smashed her 200m personal best time, and is well set for a run at English Schools' qualification. She has some tough competition though, with 2 or 3 others in her age group all running fast times. Should make for a very interesting season.

You must be very proud of them all, particularly the young lady. It shows that hard work does pay off. Well done to your group of athletes, and of course to your good self, you must have put a lot of hours in., hours which have reaped their reward.

Thank you for those kind words, Frank. This particular girl could be special. She has only competed in 20 races and is already beating athletes who have been training and racing for years. When she is training parents and other athletes stop and watch her run. On Sunday she knocked almost a second off her previous best 200m time. That rate of progress isn't sustainable, but of every athlete I have ever coached she is the one who I think has the potential to make it to the top if she wants to. It would not surprise me in the least if in a few years time she was wearing a GB vest.

Guess a lifetime ban doesn't mean life then?

You'll never get me to agree with this decision. Sadly, as the rest of the world's Olympic Associations haven't got the balls to ensure life ban means life ban it was inevitable. Wrong, but inevitable.

Yohan Blake runs 9.69 in Lausanne. Bolt up in the 200m in five minutes (BBC Three).

19.58 for Bolt. Didn't even break sweat.

As part of the Great North Run/City Games weekend they hosted trials for Year 7 pupils from secondary schools across Gateshead and Newcastle. Of the hundreds of kids who were involved they selected 2 boys and 2 girls from Gateshead schools and the same from the Newcastle schools to participate in the Great School Sprint, which was run as the first event of the Great City Games. The winning boy and the winning girl were both from my club and were both athletes I coach. Dead chuffed! And the kids were brilliant despite racing in front of crowds of nearly 10,000 people, an experience I'm sure they'll never forget. They also got to have an elite masterclass with Dwain Chambers and Wallace Spearmon, both of whom came across extremely well.

That is superb. Well done to thee, must be fantastic to see your idea's and coaching succeed in such a way.

Great stuff!

The Great North Run had extra significance for me this year as a close friend of mine took part. She'd never done anything like it before - the only 'sport' I've ever seen her do is darts down the pub.

Really proud of her for doing it - she managed to raise loads of money too.

I think it is a bit harsh that an athlete is disqualified from a race after one false start. I thought it was was harsh on Martina.

Easy win in the end for Bolt.

It's very depressing news, especially coming on top of Veronica Campbell's failed test a month or so ago. It makes me start to question why I bother with athletics if everything I coach and preach is just totally undermined by some of the sport's biggest stars. Sad day for athletics.

Very sad news - not what the sport needs at all. What a prick.
