The Athletics Thread...

English Schools Athletics live on Sky Sports 2 at 2pm. Of course, it's at Gateshead Stadium so I should really just go along and watch...

Name to watch for in the future- Clovis Asong. Won the Inter Boys (under-17) 400m in 47.06s! :yikes:

New British long jump record for Chris Tomlinson last night. Excellent! Used to see him a lot at Gateshead Stadium before he moved down to London. Decent bloke. Lad I coached (up to the age of 17) ended up training with him under Jonathan Edwards' coach.

Astounding performance from Mo Farah last night in the Diamond League. Smashed the British 5000m record by 4 seconds (!!) and destroyed a field of all the best in the world at the event. Mo has been in amazing form this season and has certainly catapulted himself onto the list of gold medal contenders for London 2012. Well done to one of the nicest guys in sport.

Why the big celebration over opening a swimming pool. The 9billion pounds 17 day event doesnt start for a year

Why this comment on a thread about athletics (see, it's in the title, it could be a decent clue)? You want to bitch about the Olympics create a thread to do so.

That was an amazing run, and to take 4 seconds off the World Record is superb. I think he has a very decent chance of getting a medal. Though it is a year away, and anything can happen.

Silver for Mo Farah in Daegu. Just missed out at the end. He can definitely win next year.

A brilliant run from Mo, but do you think he went a little to early, or his race plan was correct and unfortunately lost to a better runner on the day.

Probably 100m too early. But he'll learn from it. Silver is still amazing for him.

Oh i agree it was an amazing run, thoroughly deserved medal. Has he decided on the 5,000 yet.

Depends on his fitness. I think he will do it.

Such a nice guy, I really hope he gets a gold.

He ran 53 seconds for the final lap and was overhauled by someone who came from behind - there are very few athletes in the world who could put in that sort of last lap after 10000 metres and Farah found him.

Anyone saw the Robles Liu incident?

I really don´t know what the right decision is there.
In the future, they should separate the top four guys in the final race.Would take away alot of the potential problem scenario.

Robles grabbed his hand - right for him to be disqualified. However we'll never know whether Liu would have won ahead of Richardson.

Tatyana Chernova looking good for gold in the heptathlon, which could be a blessing in disguise for Jessica Ennis. Taking some of the pressure and expectancy away before next years Olympics.

Did anybody see the report on last nights 10 o'clock news by the BBC sports editor David Bond? What a negative t**t the guy is always looking at the dark side of sporting story.

"Jessica Ennis winning the gold medal was supposed to be a formality" was one of his quotes which just shows how clueless the guy is when you look at the different technical aspects of her event and how one poor round could be the difference in wiining gold and not getting a medal at all. She ended with a higher score than the one she got in winning the gold two years ago and I believe set 3 personal bests in the competition but he failed to mention these facts (why would he when he was delighted in doing his normal negative piece).

He went onto question the target of 7 medals without realising that many of the medal hopes are still to come later in later events. The guy makes it almost worthwhile starting a "Journalists you can't stand thread" to go alongside the s**t football pundits thread and Commentators that do you head in.

I'm glad I didn't having read that.

Nothing's a formality in sport. Otherwise we might as well default on every game we play against Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool and Man Utd. Oh wait, we beat all of those last season.

Think i read somewhere that Jess Ennis scored more points winning silver yesterday, than she did when winning the gold last time, also it was her third highest points total in a heptathlon.

She did fine, it was just the javelin that let her down. On radio today she said she was confident about her chances in future.
