You can also get anonymous call blocking too, depending on who your provider is

If its a scam, they won't even do the announce bit

But it goes like this if they call and do

1) Call your number
2) Your phone won't ring
3) They will be told the call is being monitored and to say who they are (scam callers and robot calls piss off at this point)
4) If they hang around and say who they are, your phone will then ring
5) You answer and you will get "You have a call from and plays their announcement.."scammer at Virgin Media"
6) You then will get options like Press 1 to accept, 2 to send to voicemail, 3 to reject
I mean I would hope Point 3 would apply. But if not, it doesn't solve my problem. It's the fact that it rings that bothers me.

They're not "anonymous" in the sense that it's not a withheld number. It pops up like a regular UK number. As I say, so far 0151, 0161 and 0117.

I know they're not actually in any of those places but the phone doesn't.

Seriously, it won't ring.

The scam callers hang up the moment they are asked to announce themselves, just as they won't leave a voicemail if they call your mobile. We were getting loads and because of it we got these phones and get 0 now. Only time our landline rings now (and its rare) is when the Hospital/Doctor is calling the MiL or if somewhere like the vets is calling.

Cheers man, I'll look into it if they continue. I've had the odd isolated one since I moved here but it's gone haywire this week.

I just got rid of the landline in my old house, pointless. But as I say, not an option here, try telling an 80 year old "don't phone that number, use this one instead". You'd have more luck telling Bruno Lage that Leander Dendoncker is not suitable for a false right winger role.

The only reason we have it is for similar 80 year old requirements

You would think a mobile phone with the most basic of settings was an alien object, rather than a smaller more portable version of the thing plugged into the wall

He's got one of my old phones. I wiped everything off it, add whatever you like to it, that's your business but otherwise just use it to dial out and receive calls. Nope.

Fine, use your own landline if you must but call Rach or me on the mobile, almost certainly won't cost you anything (if it does, we'll chuck you a few quid a month) and you have way more chance of catching us, you don't know if we're in or not. Nope.

I'm quite looking forward to getting really old, then I'm just going to turn the tables on anyone younger than me and pretend I know nothing about anything.

Ours uses a system whereby anyone not in the memory has to input a code to get through (just one number or several; up to you). Haven't had a scam call since we got it.

Carrie Johnson. Before your next holiday, take out a travel insurance policy that covers the holiday being cut short due to husband thinking he’s going to be Prime Minister again.

Before going to see Peter Kay, watch a Michael McIntyre or James Corden DVD so you'll think that he's still funny.

Is there a great deal of difference between budget range tyres & midrange tyres?
Got 2 places been telling me all week the midrange tyres will be delivered tomorrow & still waiting. Today told it's likely to be Tuesday & getting fed up of waiting.
My car is 12 years old now, & I only do 4-5000 miles a year really, & the price difference is £40 per tyre.
Are budget tyres false economy?

They all have to pass the same tests, have to be made to similar standards, probably made in the same factory making expensive tyres.
I’d stick the budget ones on, especially for the mileage you’re doing.
I’d stay away from stuff like ching wang, or wang Chung or similar named brands though.

I've used both over the years, my personal preference is for mid range, imv they grip better in the wet and last a bit longer.

Me too. I rarely buy the cheapest tyres available. The last ones I bought were classed as a budget tyre with a strange name (Debica), but were made in the same factory by Goodyear and got good reviews.

Better tyres equals better fuel consumption too, which is more relevant if you do decent mileage.
All tyres are rated A-E nowadays for dB level, fuel consumption and grip. Everywhere that sells them has the ratings shown,

I like to think of it this way: for all the mechanics and electronics and wizardry happening in a vehicle, the tires are the only bit of it that contacts the ground. That is to say, without tires, the rest of the car is pretty much moot.

You wouldn't cheap out on the load-bearing beams when building a home; neither should you with tires on a vehicle.

All just my opinion and obviously easy to say given my financial arrangements mean I don't have to worry about such an expense.
