Summer 2026 Transfer Window Thread

We should have also got in quickly with David Platt. He was excellent against us a season or two before he went to Villa. I guess we didn't have the money.

He scored 2 against us in 87/88 in a 2-2 draw & could see he was a cut above.

Same year remember a 16 year old Lee Sharpe coming on for Torquay and seeing straight off that he was destined for bigger things

The Kameni one remains an absolute scandal. Especially as United got granted one for Tim Howard in the same window.
FIFA 11 legend. The player Onana thinks he is.

Trippier leaving Newcastle.

He's done at PL level (and I suspect he knows that), could we tempt him? We desperately need a RB, he should still be more than good enough a division down and he could be the kind of leader that we're also aching for. Basically a deluxe Sam Ricketts from 2013.

Worth 10 goals a season from set pieces alone. Barry Douglas/Sam Ricketts hybrid.

Yes yes yes.

More of a Northern lad though isn't he, so that might effect things, but would tick so many boxes.

RB ✅
Leader ✅
Set pieces ✅
Penalty taker ✅

We should be able to outgun Burnley financially. They're absolutely loaded with debt (proper shitbeak owners, American venture capitalists, yuck), have been yo-yoing for years (which costs money), they get gates about 10,000 lower than us and we have far more sellable assets this summer.

Of course he might just want to go there, we wouldn't be able to do much about that.

I thought exactly this when I read it.

Already be mentioned, but he’d be perfect - ticks all the boxes.

We are desperate for a captain, for a start.

Not a very modern Wolves-like signing, unfortunately, though.

*knock on wood*

We might actually have threatening set pieces again with Trippier.

I would say he would be a Rob Edwards type of signing.

Whether Jorge and Nath agree is another matter

We have to start the rebuild now, and the short term plan must be to get experienced leaders on the pitch for the championship.

Forget the Burnley’s of this world, we have to compete with the likes of Millwall, Preston, Hull, Stoke, Derby et.al. and of course ‘the Shit’ to get out of this division and the current squad ain’t gonna do that.

Two year deals for Trippier and Robertson from Liverpool would be a starting point, two nasty bastards who still would be able to do a job, cuz we ain’t gonna got the quality of the likes of Neves, Coady or Boly to drag us out of the Championship again.

Big summer coming up, get it right and we bounce back, piss about and we play league one after next season 😐

Lee Sharpe had trials with us but we turned him down

The end of the season is really going to show us exactly what Nathan and Fosun's intentions are. My gut tells me they got pissed at Jeff and will want an immediate return to the Prem. 🤞

They’ll need to in order that their investment doesn’t return a huge loss.
Looking at that Southampton side last night, you’ve got to hope that they go up in the play offs as they could be serious challengers next season.

Well they've been very bullish about that already. 'We expect to be a PL team in August 27'. They need to deliver on that now though, there can't be any acceptance of mediocrity after a statement like that.

They have the financial means and the PSR wiggle room to completely blow the competition out of the water next summer. Whether they have the desire to actually spend the money, the strong leadership needed to make the kind of ruthless decisions required or the recruitment team in place to build a Championship winning squad is another matter entirely.

I worry that we'll go into next season with Edwards still in charge and far too many of the players who have let us down this season. Whether it's through hubris or some kind of misguided loyalty I think they'll end up keeping players like Tchatchoua, Bellegarde and Doyle and just expect them to be amongst the best players in the Championship next season. This squad doesn't need a little tweak here and there, it needs major surgery.

I've also got absolutely no faith in the current recruitment team to get their end right. Last time we had the Mendes cheat code and filled our squad with Europa League level talent a division down, that can't or won't happen again this time. We're going to have to recruit almost an entire team to compete at the top of the league through more traditional means and this current set up haven't proven themselves capable of that at all.

Whilst recruitment of new players is the key factor in whether we sink or swim we have to hope that at least a couple of those that stay surprise us and prove to be capable at Championship level. I’m thinking of players like Santi Bueno, Bellegarde and Wolfe. I don’t hold out any hope for Tchatchoua and have serious doubts about Doyle, Boubacar Traoré and Sam Johnstone. In an ideal world we’d start the season with none of the above but sadly that’s unrealistic.

A good starting point on this will be a man called Shi not thinking he knows everything about football and his opinion is king.

We seem to be taking small steps in the background on changing things but no clue on recruitment.
I do fear Rob will be a bit more like Lambert in his targets and we will get some very meh signings through the door though.

I was thinking that while watching them last night. Suspect they'll up up this season on their current form, unless the last 4 mo ths have been an extended flash in the pan.

I think the best scenario is Coventry, Ipswich and Saints going up. Of the other contenders only Wrexham look likely to be able to strengthen significantly. Within the pack I think Norwich and possibly Stoke, who have had horrendous injury problems this year, could be up their next season. I’d like to think with decent recruitment we could be challenging for automatic rather than settling for the play offs as the only team on a similar financial footing will be whoever finishes 18th. I don’t think a summer’s recruitment has ever been so critical to the future of the club. Get it right we go up, get it wrong and the PL will soon become a distant memory for us.
