Looking at it, that team, properly managed (so not by Mark McGhee, and you can keep lets say Venus, Bully, Curle and Froggatt from what we already had) finishes top 6 in the PL in the mid 90s. I'm convinced of it.

Essentially we could have had him instead of McGhee. But McGhee was far more highly regarded at the time.

Not saying I would have especially liked him but he took Kris Boyd on trial then promised he'd come back for him when the window was back open. Then just didn't.

Scouted Silas for two years (apparently) then had no idea what to do with him.

Māris Verpakovskis on trial in pre season too. Looked like he'd be as useful as Marian Pahars and was very good for Latvia in 2004.
