Summer 2026 Transfer Window Thread

We should not forget that there is a gulf in quality between the Prem and the Champo. I therefore think Sa, Santi, Krejci, Wolfe, Joao, Andre, Mane, JRB, Lopez, Rodrigo, Mosquera, Hugo would all be decent and maybe some others e.g Armstrong. That said, I recognise that a number of them will want to move on. If we can keep most of those named above and add some attacking flair plus a RWB we would have a decent chance of auto promotion imo.
But we won’t keep ‘most’ of them. And the ones going are all the better ones. Santi, JRB, Rodrigo and maybe Mosquera are all you’d think would be here come September.

Thing is, from your list Sa, João, Andre, Lopez and probably Krejci won't be here.

Regardless anyway, they may be 'decent' abilitywise in an inferior league, but the mental weakness and gutlessness has been apparent all season.

This shameful squad needs gutting as much as possible in the summer

As @Lycan pointed out the other week, for the first time in years and years we're going to have to play much more on the front foot next season with a much higher defensive line. So in terms of Santi Bueno, he isn't going to suddenly be able to run or turn, so what then.

That gulf in quality exists between a half decent premier league teams and the championship. Wolves are not a half decent Premier league team.

Phrases like “they’ll be decent” or “will do alright, in the championship” are the problem, if they go back up you’re just creating a yo yo squad at best.

Yeah, but the team that got us promoted was very much the outlier, it's rare a team gets promoted with a PL squad like we did. Building a promotion team like Sunderland and to a lesser degree Leeds did and binning them off when up is more realistic.

It will be an interesting close season. Building a team for the Championship from virtual scratch will be difficult enough. If that team is successful, first season, we then need to build a team for the Premiership. Can`t see it. I am steeling myself for a few seasons in the Championship.

Yeah, I can't be arsed to catastrophise too much about the future while this awful season is still going on, but it's hard to be optimistic while the foundations are built on the talent and judgement of Shi II, Jackson and Edwards.

Maybe they'll surprise us 😅

I'd be stunned if we were in contention for Automatic Promotion next year. There's nothing about this squad that suggests they've got anywhere near the mental fortitude required to dominate at Championship level, even before you dive into whether there's enough talent there.

Our recruitment team need to either be absolutely excellent in the summer (no prior evidence of this being a possibility) or very lucky.

A play-off finish is a possibility, especially with the ridiculous new 6 team format. Even more likely is a mid/lower table slugfest.

Every year a couple of teams that nobody expects get into top six. This year it’s Hull and Millwall and not many predicted Middlesbrough to be competing for automatic promotion. A solid defence and goals being spread across a number of players is what you need. I think the defence part is achievable but our recruitment is going to have to do some heavy lifting to sort the goals out.

I think it’s almost impossible to predict how we’ll do until we’ve seen who is leaving and who replaces them. Recent history doesn’t fill me with any optimism that we’ll get the recruitment anywhere near right but maybe there’s a chance that in the Championship it’s easier to recruit players that you know a bit about rather than taking a scattergun approach of bringing in the type of players we did last summer and crossing your fingers.

Absolutely this.

Would be nice to be pleasantly surprised with a bit of proactivity but we've been scarred by atrocious planning for a number of years now.

We'll just have to see.

While we are unlikely to be able to shift all of them but atm the only player nailed on to be here next season is Armstrong.
Likely to still be here maybe, Rodrigo, Tolu, Toti, Hugo.
Wouldn't be surprised to see Johnstone in goal, also Munetsi back in the squad.
We'll really need to sign quite a few quality players to push for promotion. It'll be all down to the recruitment team🫣 and how much cash Fosun will release.
