Summer 2022 Transfer Window

Jeff and Scott will say We’ve got Cundle, MGW, Giles and Ronan what’s the problem?

He’s always linked to Lazio I think. Maybe we’ll get Wallace in return (is he still there?)

I've mentioned a few times a while back that I don't think Ruddy is adequate backup for this level. I understand why he keeps getting new deals as from players comments and the media they put out he seems a good chap and a leader around the place and there's a lot to be said for having good characters around. Luckily he's not been pressed into any meaningful amount of league action since we came up and hopefully that continues.

Back up Prem keeper is a tough spot to fill as not many are happy to sit around and play Cup games. Henderson at Man Utd quickly regretting his desire to stay and battle de Gea for example.

Not that many you would want getting an extended run if the 1st choice is injured/turns to shit.

Its either a Ruddy type or a young keeper learning the trade (or an £80m flop like at Chelsea)

How many teams have decent back ups though? City's got them knocked out of the cup, Liverpool's is a kid and before that Adrian. Chelsea are lumbered with theirs because of the amount the paid, Utd's wants out etc etc.

Yeah it's a weird one. I'd agree that I wouldn't want Ruddy to play any more than the odd game (and even then that would be potentially costly) but very hard to find someone capable who would want to be back up.

I wouldn’t be unhappy with him remaining, but I’d like us to stop playing him in the FA Cup. That shouldn’t be part of a deal.

Seems to be the thing though doesn't it. Not that many clubs in the Prem who don't use the back up keeper in Cup games now

I know. Just seems a bit daft to me, especially for someone like Ruddy who doesn’t need a format to showcase his abilities. Maybe different for a younger keeper you’re keen to keep?

Will just be part of keeping some squad morale. Train every day, do all the community shit expected so here you go, you can play in the Cup games.

Don't personally think it should be a thing but it is right now across most clubs.

I think we're keeping ruddy until one of six thousand young keepers start to look decent.

It's a situation that works for Ruddy and the club. Last thing we want is to have to spend money on a back up keeper.

Understood. I do think his biggest contribution to the community spirit of Wolverhampton would be to stop letting goals in in the cup though.

Thankfully he kept out Chorley last year.

I don’t think anyone will sign Ruddy so it solves his/our problem. As I said before he’s basically unemployable. He’s too old, and been out the game too long, and he’s not that good. If people want a short term fix they’ll just sign a youngster on loan from a big club for peanuts or someone like Sarkic for example. He’d probably be taking a 75% pay cut as well if there was anyone desperate/interested.
