Summer 2022 Transfer Window

I can’t see Silva being loaned out unless someone is very imminent…

Wolves have had the inside track on him for over a decade, maybe they know something others don't?

If they can get £20m or more for him then I don't expect the club to ever regret that.
I think the evidence of the recordings of last season’s appearances at Sheffield United are better evidence than anything in the nine years proceeding it. He was just a talented youngster before who now has a season as a star performer in the Championship.
He might be a good premier league player, he might flatter to deceive but there is risk. £20m + a 25% sell on clause for a player that the jury is out on is a good return.

It also depends very much on how a Premier League team played him. Sheffield United tried him in a three, quickly realised he was a liability and played him behind the striker. I’d take £25m in a heartbeat.

I thought he played mainly from the right for Sheffield United.

Patrick Cutrone
Bruno Jordao
Daniel Podence
Fabio Silva
Ki-Jana Hoever
Nelson Semedo
Willian José
Francisco Trincao
Hwang Hee-Chan

Around £125m there.

So the £25m that we'd get in...would it be likely to be well used? I think no.

Thelwell has a better track on him than anyone though

He'll certainly know his fair share, wouldn't have thought he spent much time directly with him though. Surely there would be coaches lower down the pecking order that had far more hands on time and Thelwell merely got their opinions reported up to him? Who knows if any of those people are still around the club though.

Plenty of players have excelled in the Championship and looked very ordinary in the Premier League, that's where I think he'll fall ultimately. He's not a bad player but I think he's just not quite at the top level physically or technically to consistently make an impact.

From what I saw of him last season he tries a lot of riskier stuff, you get more scope to try that the stronger your team is comparative to the competition. In weaker teams you're going to get punished much more when those things don't pay off. There will be less margin for error in the Premier League too, stronger and quicker opponents, people pouncing on a slack touch, I reckon a decent chunk of his seasons highlights wouldn't have come to pass at Premier League level as a result.

Either way, there isn't really place for him in the current Wolves side. Positionally he doesn't really have a spot, not that I think he really has a best position himself at this point, even at Sheff Utd he seemed to get punted around different attacking positions a bit and allowed to pretty much do what he wanted. The mentality of the whole team doesn't suit either though, like we see with Podence trying more flamboyant stuff at times, when everyone else is standing around playing safe passes to stationary team mates it just means be gives the ball away most of the time.

He might not look bad at Everton either to be fair, Lampard isn't great but he does at least tend to let his attacking players have plenty of freedom which should suit him. They tended to be very up and down under him last season and would like MGW would be the same there.

Regardless of how money is spent, if you're making a fist of developing players to sell at a profit you have to sell when their value peaks. Is MGW likely to be worth more than £25m any time soon? Even if he stays is he going to make much difference to the current team? He's been around the first team for 4 years or more now I think, barely put a dent in it.

I don’t blame him if he wants leave but I think we will regret selling MGW. Hopefully any sale will include a good sell on clause.

However, if we need to sell somebody to raise funds then obviously I’d prefer him and a few other squad players to go and Neves stay.

I can’t believe we’ve had 5 years of Neves and if he’s signing on for another season then I will be delighted.

He was Academy Manager from 2008, the same year MGW joined and was still in that role, be it with a fancier title when he played for England U17s. During that time MGW was comfortably the most successful player to come from the Academy. He will have played a lot closer interest than just hearing coaches opinions.

They had loads of injuries, so played all over including part of a double false 9. His best was as one of 2 8/10 hybrids behind the forward, so would look like a front 3 written down, but wasn't really. Mark is correct though in he had licence to be creative and that came with errors as well as some very good. He is going to give the ball away and do things he shouldn't, personally ignoring the history and contract side I'd rather have him doing that than Podence.

Because Lage is so different to what we were led to believe he was it's difficult to know how he'd fit in to that. Based on last season I don't think he would, based on what he was supposed to be like from his period at Benfica he'd be the perfect player for him.

Think they’re on the wind up, but maybe I’m just optimistic.

Lowering expectations/disappointing everyone will then mean good news has a bigger impact even if the end outcome is identical.

Means all the “trust the club” “look, they know what their doing” come out the woodwork.

Unless they sign first team ready players at CB, CM, ST (and realistically two, of different profiles) then they've failed.

If we *can* get Ramos loan with option, Belotti, nico and broja on loan and Collins, then that'd be a good window, and could be funded by just selling someoby (MGW or Adama) for £25m, and then dipping into our cash for £15m or so. That really doesn't seem that difficult.

You'd sign three centre forwards?

I think you're giving them too much credit 😂

I doubt they put much thought into this shit at all.

(Not my usual source but a good bloke has passed on this superb news)
Not questioning this info as such and as always it's appreciated, but considering we signed Hwang early so we could literally announce him on a certain date that matched his shirt number etc so we could get some likes and clicks online, it seems like a bit of a missed opportunity if indeed Ruben has signed a new contract. He signed on this day exactly 4 years ago, whilst also launching the away kit. It's literally the perfect social media post. Number 8 signs a new deal on the 8th, 4 years after signing.

But no... it's just a kit launch 😂
