Summer 2022 Transfer Window

Boro in talks to sign Ryan same-level-as-Aït-Nouri Giles on loan.
Be a good loan in a wilder team you’d hope. Let him get back to the level of his Cardiff loan and you should be able to get a fairly decent fee for him

For all the calls of Vitinha being let go being a bad decision, WBA aside he didn't really set the world alight when he was here. Clear he has ability but there was plenty to work on. It may go down as a bad decision but at the point he was at last summer £18m was quite a steep price tag.

I'd say it's at the place we were at as a club it was a steep price tag not the other way around.

For example when we paid 20m for Neto and Jordao they'd done less in first team football than Vitinha.

The loan is the difference. If we'd signed him for £17m in the Summer of 2020 then I don't think there'd have been many complaints. Having been here for a year and making little impact - even though that didn't seem to be his own fault, it becomes a more questionable spend. If Neto was a loan with a £17m option we absolutely would have firmed that up the year after because of the impact he'd made.

I'm more critical of the board signing Hwang after seeing he wasn't very good than not signing Vitinha who could have been

Very true IMO as mentioned this is all on Nuno if we are looking to blame someone you can't really blame Shi or Sellars. Hindsight is a wonderful thing Chelsea probably regret letting De Bruyne and Salah go for peanuts but at the time neither looked like the players they have become

He looked a tidy player but considering in the same season we payed £35M for Silva I don't feel you could justify spending another £18M on Vitinha. I don't think many would have been pleased with the club spending £50M+ on 2 Porto youth players with very little game time no matter the potential.

Basically the perfect fit for him style wise. They're building a good squad and will have plenty of £ from the Spence deal.

Whilst I can understand the view that we should look to move him on permanently now, what would we get? £2m? A full season with a good side at that level could see that triple.

Rumours gaining pace on social media that Neves is ready to sign a new deal with us. I guess we can all live in hope?

For the first time in a few years, I will be pleasantly surprised by the folk in charge if we manage to keep hold of him AND sign Nunes. Especially if Moutinho signs the one year contract offer that’s on the table.

Neves, Nunes, Moutinho, Dendonker & MGW as options in the middle is a marked improvement on last season & would also allow Cundle to go out on loan.

That's a very fair comment!

Can imagine Palhinha was a Neves leaving dependent signing, and Nunes is very much the type of midfielder we need regardless.

It isn't beyond the realms of possibility he'll sign a new deal: could only see him leaving us to go to a Liverpool/Barcelona/Real Madrid/Manchester City sized club who are competing in the Champion's League. Maybe Manchester United as well but Europa League and Europa Conference football is something we could achieve here where he's settled.

Not a chance we would have that many CMs IMO, it’d be like all our Christmases come at once.

We aren't going to have Neves and Nunes. How do they generate the 45-50m it takes to get Nunes without Neves' sale? Not going to happen.

It's also very much a style and managers thing: Salah and De Bruyne have flourished under Klopp and Guardiola respectively. Perhaps Nuno's style didn't suit Vitinha - look at how much Neves has flourished playing under Lage this season in comparison to Nuno's last season.

It may be that Vitinha would suit us more now, but we'll never know.

Exactly this. Add that they have to buy a CB and right sided forward to replace Trincao.

There's almost zero chance we are buying Nunes anyway but even less than a snowflake's chance of we sign Neves to a new contract.

FWIW, I agree with all of this.

But it’s the hope that kills you. Imagine a midfield of Neves-Moutinho-Nunes with MGW taking the advanced wide role that Trincao had in the squad.

Who knows, maybe we are using the money that would have been used on Trincao to get Nunes and MGW is coming in to the squad and costing us nothing.

I appreciate Jeff Shi & Scott Sellars probably don’t use common sense like this, though.

I think it's more likely that Neves stays with us that we sign Nunes personally (both very unlikely), as at least with Neves we are reliant on another club actually stumping up the money, and that is reliant on a number of things such as probably De Jong to United, then Barca to sign Neves.

I wouldn't back our lot to sign Nunes if said he wanted to come to us, and they only wanted £20million, we'd probably offer £15mill.

I'd love us to be keeping Neves and signing Nunes, but I just can't see it, as Johnny says, more likely neither are happening.

So is Trincao officially not ours, then?
