So I guess all we need to do now is get Adama to practice scanning morning, noon and night?

Doesn’t really tell us anything we don’t already know. Neves and Moutinho with two of the lowest forward passing figures with lots going sideways.

Also on a list that’s full of defenders. Whilst their performances have been alright for what we’re asking them to do, it’s pretty pathetic stuff from a creative point of view, which desperately needs addressing in the window.

See this is you just seeing the poster and reading what you fancy. I’ve been pretty positive about a lot of things this season (like Sa, for example), but I didn’t see your smart arse comments in reply to them?

Maybe we could do a pie chart of your tedious, twatty remarks/useful or interesting input instead…
 
I think we need to know what a forward pass is, if it's everything from moving the ball a yard forward to the next player to a long ball upfield it doesn't tell us much.

If we look at something like a progressive pass (ball is moved 10 yards nearer the goal, anything from the defensive 40% is discounted) then Neves is about 15 progressive passes ahead of anyone at Palace. Moutinho would be second highest in palaces squad.

Saiss ties with the highest palace player for progressive passes and beats all of them on accumulated distance.
 
I have a suspicion it's possession / touch data that'll show where were struggling

That's a disingenuous chart. Defenders by position are more likely to make forward passes as the only person behind them would be the keeper or another defender. Whereas midfielders will have players on a 360 option, be more likely under pressure and may well have very little in front of them.

What the chart does show is we don't make as many passes as many think (including me) and the passes are spread our more across our defence and midfield.

Lallana and Rice pass the ball sideways and backwards more than Neves or Moutinho for example.

True. The issue with Rice, Romeu etc is they are out and out defensive midfielders. Their teams have more creative/quality attacking midfielders in front of them. Neves and Moutinho IS our midfield - they have no one else in front of them doing the attacking midfield role, so then it's an issue of squad options (hi Jeff) or the way we are playing needs to change in order for us to get more out of our midfield two (which probably can't happen at the moment as he doesn't trust our defence to play 4 at the back).

As I say, it doesn't really tell us anything we don't already know.
 
Rice doesn't play as a holding midfielder for West Ham in the sense that he sits for 90 mins. Him and Soucek take it in turns to go forwards, hence he has a goal and 3 assists this year. They complement each other very well

Trincao, Raul and Pod/ Hwang are all in front of both midfielders and when making good runs the midfield find them well. Add to that when both wing backs are forward we have 5 players to receive the ball. Everton and Newcastle both struggled with that.

We don’t play an attacking midfield role and unless we change shape I’m not sure what we can do. Chelsea play fantastic attacking football with the same shape and formation, they’re just coached better and have goal scoring full backs.

The shape and dynamism of our midfield pair isn’t the problem.
 
Guess who has the most carries into the opponent's 3rd of the pitch?
