To have a separate discussion from the Bruno Lage stay or go thread.

In terms of the squad, who do you think will be here here next season. Who do you think is on their way out and which positions need filling.

As a starter....

------------------------------------------Sa-------------------------------------------

Semedo----------------Kilman-------------------New CB-------------------Johnny

-------------------------Dendonker------------Moutinho----------------------------

---------Neto------------------------New CM/AM--------------New Wide Forward

---------------------------------------New CF-----------------------------------------

Subs: Sarkic, Coady, Ait Nouri, Gomes, Cundle, MGW, Chiquinho, Silva,

Sell - Neves (I don't want to), Raul, Traore, Podence

It will be equivalent to the self inflicted harm of Brexit if we are to let Moutinho go.

Thoughts?

With Raul I think I would keep him, obviously if a bid you can't refuse comes in then it's a different story, but I would probably be hesistant to actively look to move him on.

He's not had a good season at all but he still looks a much better option than Silva for me, he is coming off the back of a horrific injury, in a team that creates hardly anything (this reason is use for the defense of Silva having scored 0 goals but not Raul for some reason) and low on confidence. If there is any small chance you can get him back near the levels of before he's got to be worth sticking with for a bit longer. Given his form, age and concerns any potential suitors must have about what that injury has done to his levels I don't think we're going to get a bid of anything like what it would take for us to let him go.

What I guess:
Moutinho, Saiss, Marcal, Cutrone end of contract
Boly - loan somewhere for a year for £2m and they cover his wages
Raul - loan somewhere for £5m with an option of about another £10m. They cover the £100k a week.
Traore, Jonny, Dendoncker, Podence all sold for around £12m each
Neves sold £50m
MGW sold for £20m if Sheff U win the play offs, comes back if not.
Wouldn't surprise me if Coady goes if Lage stays and wants 4 at the back. He won't want to be in the bench in a WC season
Ruddy 1 year contract
Sarkic sold to Blues £1.5m
Sanderson sold to a Championship team for about the same
Trincao goes back
Hwang confirmed officially

I don't have any faith in the 5/6 new being fit for purpose even with £100m to spend on them

Doubt Jeff would sell Raul, just think of all the matchday and club shop revenue they’d lose from those millions of Mexican fans…

It's fine, they aren't Wolves fans just because of Raul and Wolves are definitely their number 1 club.....

Jonny for 12m? I'd be apoplectic with rage. Assuming his injury problems are past, that would as bad as spending 35m on Silva, worse actually as we know what we have with Jonny, easily our best and most consistent player since we came up. Got to be worth at least 25m of anyone's money, even with his injury problems.

I’d be selling Semedo ahead of Jonny. He’d fetch more and isn’t as good unless last Saturday is Jonny’s new level.

I think Saiss, Moutinho, Marcal will leave.

Boly will stay as cover as we won’t get offered enough to let him go.

Neves will go for about £55m and Traore for about £15m.

Coady and Semedo might go if we get a decent offer but not sure they’ll be in great demand at the price we want.

Trincao will go back unless we “Afobe” him.

Who we being in I have no idea but there’ll certainly be a centre half quicker than Coady but that doesn’t really narrow it down! More mobile CMs will come in and I’ll probably never have heard of at least one of them. I suspect Guedes will also sign.

Much would change depending on manager in reality but if I could get my way:

Sa

Semedo/Jonny New CB Kilman Jonny/Ait Nouri

Neves New CM

Neto MGW New LW

Raul

Subs/Squad: Sarkic/Ruddy, One of the good wing-backs, Bolla, Boly, Mosquera, Coady, Moutinho, Cundle, Chiquinho, Fabio, Hwang

So outgoing would be; Saiss, Donck, Marcal, Hoever (loan I guess), Podence (if true he wants out, just let him), Traore, potentially Coady too.

But we clearly want to keep Saiss so I doubt we are moving away from a back three which is fine if we learn to attack properly. I've tried to limit how many first team signings we make because I a) don't back us to even sign three that improve us and b) think it is difficult to integrate that many so quickly anyway unless you have a really good manager/head coach.

Looking forward to us pretending Cutrone might be an option in pre-season then loaning him out just as the season starts.

I'm comfortable with all of the below leaving:

Ruddy, Hoever, one of Boly/Saiss (but not both), Marçal, Sanderson, Dendoncker, Giles, Ronan, Trincao, Hwang and Cutrone.

I don't think Barcelona will sign Adama but someone else will bid for him. Not sure how the club will see it, if it's a choice between £10m now or keep him for a season and if he goes on a free so be it, I'd take Option B (we aren't likely to get anyone any good for that kind of money).

I think MGW will go if Sheff Utd get promoted, more because he'll want to stay in a team where he's already trusted, popular and integrated. If not then I think he'll come back, if so we have to give him a proper go, no point having another year where he's barely used.

I expect Neves to go but obviously I don't want that to happen.

I'd like a minimum of a centre half (with pace), two central midfielders (at least one of whom has to carry a proper goal threat) and a striker (not some generic big lug either, please. And not bloody Guedes as he is shite).

We can't afford a repeat of 2019, 2020 or 2021, because we seem to be in decline and this manager increasingly can't get anything out of the current squad. They're deluding themselves if they think the answers are in the U23 team because they aren't.

You always have to factor in “who will buy them” when you think about a fee for a player and forget about what you think they are worth. 28 going 29 year old FBs who have just had two hamstring injuries in 2 months, whose greatest asset is athleticism. Isn’t really a market for those at a fee worth our while.

Top clubs aren’t interested in midtable RBs, midtable clubs don’t blow £30m on midtable RBs with limited/no room to improve (oh hello Wolves), and non elite foreign clubs don’t have any money.

I’m just hoping Atletico want him. Not sure given his two ACL injuries Jonny is marketable either.

Nope, Jonny is only marginally younger. Someone would buy them if they were on the market for £15m, maybe £20m. But at that fee we are better off keeping them.

This is a team/squad I would be very happy with provided the 'new' are up to scratch (obviously). Still think we might need a decent striker to go with Raul and Silva

Much as I want, and feel we need a bit of clear out, i fear that what we bring in to replace them won't be as good/will be worse.

There's no evidence over the last couple of years to suggest otherwise.

My effort (release / listen to offers for anybody not mentioned):

Retain: Sa, Kilman, Jonny, Ait-Nouri, Neto, Neves (but he'll likely be gone regardless)
Maybe: Cody, Semedo, Podence, Silva
U23s: Gibbs-White, Mosquera, Chiquino, Campbell

(I'll admit to having a soft spot for Dendoncker. I think he has passion and he puts a shift in - essentially the Belgian David Edwards)

I think everything comes home to roost next season and we're going to be left with Shi and Chancer in Chief Sellars being exposed for what they are.

Has a team ever sold it's captain and vice captain in the same window? I think there's alot if potential we do that this summer.

You think we're going to sell Coady?

Hes the one player I could almost guarantee stays here until he retires.

Potential for it not saying its a certainty but theres a scenario where if Lage stays we might move to a 4, WC year etc.
