Southampton Vs Wolves Build-Up and Match Thread 15/03/25

Being 1-0 up away at a relegation rival surely dampens any serious criticism about the performance.

Hopefully we play better 2nd half but the aim for the rest of the season is points and safety and all else is a bonus

I'm not going to pretend that we've played well. We haven't.

But this is the picture.

If from this:

I'm offering you this:

Table 15.3.png

And then you start whining about how it isn't very good football, then I haven't got a fucking clue what to say to you.

As for Rodrigo Gomes, does he have more assists than Bellegarde? I doubt it. That's two superb crosses (today and vs Bournemouth at home) that he's put in for Jorgen Stranded Larsen to score.

Agba is a beast

He is good defense.

RAN and Semedo, are playing on one defense of 5 but dont made any on defense and atack. I dont know by dont play Rodrigo Gomes and Pedro Lima.

Joao and Andre are the same type of player, dont are good defenders, not are good attackers, only made short passes all time, dont send good long passes.

Many players pass to one attack and stay quiet, don't run up and find spaces to create teamplays. They need continue movement, dont stay quiet like lazy players.

Strand is winning some decent ball off their defenders, but i am fuming at ran.
The twat is having one of his "i'm a superstar" playdays.
Vic, speak to the boy or warm up rodrigo.

Oh right. So we’re not allowed to comment on the performance then?

Gotcha.

What are you expecting though?

We've been broadly speaking shite for about 4 years on end, barring a brief purple patch under everyone's favourite O'Neil.
It really does blow my mind how ridiculously tilted some folks get (and I don't even mean Jinks specifically here) when the other side holds any kind of possession.

Southampton are not so dreadful that they will never produce anything. It's as if any time we aren't completely rolling the opposition over, it's because we're a sham and embarrassment. It's disrespectful to the opposition, frankly. They are also a top flight side doing everything they can to get out of a hole.

I dunno, man. The extremes are so exhausting every single week. We're not playing against 11 traffic cones.

I don't think it's unreasonable to say that's a dissapointing 45 minutes tbh. We've played shit, we look like conceding, and we've just managed to score a wank goal against a wank team. That goal is so bad. All the time in the world to cross it, JSL with the freedom of the box, and then a header that I think would be saved more often than not by Tom King.

Even given our managed decline and missing our best player, we should still be playing better than this against one of the worst sides the PL's seen in the last 15 years

We're a poor team (look how far behind we are of every single team above us) who need to get enough points on the board to stay up and hopefully reframe everything about the club.

We're never going to come here and play them off the park. We don't have the players, even if Cunha were on the pitch, which he isn't.

You can't say on the one hand that there are multiple players in this matchday squad who you'd happily never ever see in a Wolves shirt again (which I know you think) and then also wail about how rubbish we are. It's all part of the same thing.

Agreed. Southampton have managed to knock it around alright, albeit with no end product, so no reason we can't do similar with our players. We badly miss Cunha but his absence shouldn't mean we can't pass the ball around for a while.

Nobody has said that. We disagree with you. There's a difference.
Er… I disagree with you (and by default, Dan) and have just been told I’m “whining”.

Go have a look in the mirror. These things work both ways.

I mean he's literally had the league tables from when GON was sacked, compared to today, as a response to saying that we were shit in the first half, so. Yeah. When we're talking about a half of football, I don't think there's a need for a slide deck on caveats, mitigating factors, and an essay on how you've formed your expectations.

I didn't say you were whining, either. I do think you're being well OTT.

I don't have any idea what the mirror comment is about. But if you want to be dick, that's on you I guess.

Perhaps there’s stuff getting lost in translation here. I’ve said several times now that I’m not expecting us to “play them off the park”. Or to put in a performance akin to “Barca or Netherlands 74” - you and Alan said that stuff (and he’s just told me it’s me being “OTT” 😂😂). I’ve said it would be nice to string a few passes together and to have more than a couple of shots on target against a team that’s currently on course to score less points this season than the famous Derby side.

I agree - our squad is shite and there are multiple players I’d be happy to never see play for us again 😘

You guys dont have bad team, have bad coachs.

Play defense 5 and use semedo and ran, not is a good option.

You guys need change that two, and try play like this..

Doc-----Abga-----Bueno-----Toti
--------------Andre----------------
-----Wellgrade-----Gomes--------
Sarabia-------------------Rodrigo
---------------Larsen--------------

Less df, more midfields.

The January signings definitely make our defence better and that’s why I feel more optimistic that we can come away with three points. 🫰

We were shit, I didn't say otherwise.

I'm asking what you reasonably expect because we aren't a very good team.

As an aside, had Sam Allardyce done the job that Vitor Pereira has done, he'd be getting lauded as a survival expert and a borderline genius.
