Southampton are doing a job on us here

What the fuck with that handball middle of the park he went to give it then realised it was for Wolves and changed his mind

Raul has been all over the shop tonight. Poor first touch, poor passing, poor finishing.

Can't take him off though.

And now we're playing 4-2-3-1. Interesting, am up for the occasional experiment!

Raul playing badly is such a problem for us
This. It fucks everything else if we can't even rely on him to hold up the ball. And just there on that Neto chance, he's just stood 14 yards out not doing anything. Fucking make a run!

There's experimentation and then there's just crossing your fingers and grasping for something to work

Another team who could not beat us last year who are leading again.
The only reason why they didn’t is a dodgy last minute penalty. Do you have a point or are you just wasting bandwidth?

We just don’t have enough goals in us. None of our wide players score enough. Our centre mids don’t score. We don’t score from set pieces. So when Raul is looking like a competition winner - which he has for some time - we just don’t look like scoring. And sides that don’t score goals, generally don’t tend to do very well.

Someone might come up with a bit of magic and get us out of jail tonight - but it won’t change my opinion that we are, in our current state, a mid-table, fairly toothless outfit.

We’ve created enough to score at least one tonight, we just aren’t remotely clinical enough.

I think it's a fair gauge that something is wrong tbf.
It implies that every team we beat last season stood still in the meantime, though. Which they absolutely do not. This Southampton team are miles better than either iteration we played last season.

It isn't its completely meaningless.

Different time of season, different starting XIs, different system, different states of confidence/mentality for both teams.

The only thing that matters is how many points you end up with at the end of the season.
