Southampton 1-2 Wolves. Verdict Thread

Totally agree with Tom Hark, how those twats behave on MOTD. Very annoyed with Ian Wrights stance on Southamptons "so called" penalty, which never was. And their behaviour at the end, WANKERS.

The issue I have with the controversy and most of the pundits, they have acted as if its our fault, we had nothing to do with it, Yes there is an element of sympathy for Southampton but they still wouldn't have won.

Watching it again - what was Donk doing on their penalty shout? Trying to head it at shin height?

Damned by faint praise from Garth Crooks with Neto making his BBC team of the week and then he writes this:-

Pedro Neto: This was a game that was turned on its head by a shocking decision. Can anyone tell me what constitutes handball any more? The penalty decision awarded by Graham Scott against Southampton's Ryan Bertrand not only forced the game with Wolves to descend into farce but practically gave the visitors the points. Pedro Neto's goal, however, was sheer class. The Portuguese striker produced a moment of magic in order to seal the game. However, the Premier League need to take note, this new handball rule (like the offside rule) needs to be amended before the fans return. A generation of players will not be the only ones that won't stand for it.

Am I the only one who finds him a boorish self opinionated oaf?

Garth Crooks once picked Joel Matip in his Team of the Week referencing that he struggled in one game but played well in the other.

Leaving aside that that's stupid (surely pick someone who had two good games), he didn't even play in the first one.

I fail to see how it's a "shocking decision", I just don't get it. That was a penalty 20 years ago.

You're right but the law brings "t-shirt line" into the discussion. The picture you posted is a freeze frame, from behind with no indication of when and where the ball struck. Did the referee make an obvious mistake on either decision? I would say no
Given if you look carefully on the one replay angle, you can see his shirt sleeve reacting to the ball hit, there's no question about exactly where it hit him.

I suspect even Garth Crooks BBC colleagues think he's a joke pundit, got no idea how he's lasted so long, been terrible since he started.....tbf they roll him out as little as possible.

Picture 1 - even though he's an absolute fanny for turning his back on a shot, that doesn't absolve you from anything. Arm is up, hits hand, penalty. As I say, rewind to 2001. Same decision. Nothing to do with VAR or new rules.

Picture 2 - I don't really know what Donck is doing other than a bad turtle impression but it hits him up towards the shoulder. Not a penalty.

I'm all for calling out crazy handball decisions as they've decided to mess with something that worked ok (even though "intent" was always an absolute nonsense, unless someone is punching the ball off the line Suarez-style, no-one *means* to handle it realistically) but neither of those were. Save the outrage for when it's worthy.

Like er, this one.

Summary: As we continually get done over by stupid margins (that then get changed, mid-season, but it doesn't change our results) then cry me a fucking river.

The incredulity of Ralph and the commentators
"You show me a picture of where his hand was raised"
"The ball hit his hand and knocked it up away from his body"

Crooks is terrible. Last week he included Foden after his performance against Liverpool, before saying he isn't ready to play with adults and is behind Grealish, Maddison and Mount.

Phil Foden is 21 in a couple of months FFS.

I think what pisses me off the most is that no one gave a shit about Kilmans penalty against Leicester but this feels like this one is the biggest injustice since OJ.

tbf Shearer (I think it was) had a proper rant about it shouldn't have been given on motd.......wasn't it this that made the league look at the law again?.....not that you should be changing things mid season

Not only did it hit his hand, it deflected the ball( a lot ) away from a goal bound cross/shot. I think that was handball in the 70's, not just now. Hence VAR not even bothering to wake up for it.
Pundits saying thy feel sorry for Southampton. Get. To. Fuck. If it would have been the other way around they would have been saying it's a stonewall penalty.

I hope we do Leeds on Friday. The pundits will all need our thoughts and prayers at that difficult time.

I watched it again. Just has Semedo shoots, Bertrand turns side on and lifts his arm towards the ball, as soon as you do that it's a Pen end of.

Still have not seen Donks, there are 2 questions

1. DId it hit him above the T Shirt line
2. Did it take a deflection

Insaw Saints fans moaning about a hand ball not given against Villa before saying It defelcted of his thigh. Hand Ball cannot be given if it deflects of any other part of your body. Just by there description it's no Pen, as much as I would them to have beaten Vile.

What did everyone here think of Paul Butler's handball in the play off final? Pretty similar penalty to the Bertrand one given against us 18 years ago.

I was raging at the time. It probably is a pen though.

Plus I hate Paul Butler, the dickhead.
